CmdrShepard,

Is that a sundial in your pocket or are you just happy to see us?

CmdrShepard,

You don’t have to get a cellular connected watch. My Samsung operates off wifi and Bluetooth only.

While I wouldn’t say they’ll revolutionize your life, they are useful for telling time, notifications, navigation, step tracking, exercise tracking, sleep tracking, controlling music, etc. If you find a good deal on one you might try it out. My battery lasted about 3 days new and is down to about 2 days now but I’ve already bought a replacement battery which looks easy enough to swap.

It rips the disks 1:1 into MKV format. Honestly, you could probably leave it there and skip the long Handbrake conversion. DVDs are only around 5GB of files.

Also when installing MakeMKV be sure to Google for the free product key from the developers.

Low effort posts

Ask Lemmy is a place to ask thought provoking questions. The mods have been lenient with some of the recent posts on the basis that they must provoke thought for some people, but after seeing two posts essentially saying “what do you think of my stick?”, I believe we can raise the bar a bit on what kind of thoughts we want...

CmdrShepard,

Perhaps it’s a critique on the quality of the rest of the posts.

CmdrShepard,

Do they work in the legal profession?

CmdrShepard,

That was my impression too but after rereading it, I wonder if it’s satire taking a dig at our insane reality in the US.

CmdrShepard,

I’m almost 40 and the CW had the same shit back when I was a teenager with shows like Smallville. It’s crazy they’re still following the same exact formula today 20+ years later.

CmdrShepard,

Have you actually verified whether you can turn this connectivity off? I know on other new cars it’s embedded in the electronics with no on/off button.

CmdrShepard,

In my experience, files are named pretty well these days to include resolution, source, the actual title and release year, video format, audio format, language, and release group.

Try looking at the way music files are named and you’ll see how awful naming conventions can get.

CmdrShepard,

Actually Facebook recently implemented a subscription service to remove ads.

CmdrShepard,

Let us not forget how these same publishers used to price gouge us on these CDs before we had any legitimate alternatives. In the '90s, they’d charge $20-$25 for an album with 10 songs on it, most of them filler. With inflation, that’d be equivalent to $40-$50 today.

CmdrShepard,

Another one is ErsatzTV. They allow you to create your own ‘TV channels’ based on stuff in your library.

CmdrShepard, (edited )

Just a fair warning, if you already use the LiveTV option with a TV Tuner or IPTV, I have yet to find a way to get them blended together with the fake TV channels in the guide on Plex even with xTeve outputting a valid m3u/xmltv. It’s either one or the other unfortunately.

Emby did work correctly so I’m assuming it’ll also work correctly in Jellyfin too.

CmdrShepard,

This (and “tyre”) is why we won the war.

CmdrShepard, (edited )

I am familiar with that and don’t believe your take is accurate. When asking this question, it’s followed with a description of the thing you spy.

“I spy… do you?” is the text of the ad and the text following that doesn’t make it make any more sense either, “Game more than you thought you could.”

CmdrShepard,

What happened to Diarrhea 1-3?

CmdrShepard,

Ironically it’s the fast food joint with some of the longest wait times in the industry.

CmdrShepard,

They’re all random names consisting of 7 capital letters too DINGBAO, VXSUFEN, WEGTHOS, etc.

CmdrShepard,

You’re lucky it wasn’t Bill Clinton “I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky” instead.

CmdrShepard,

Let me get this straight, this machine makes yogurt but one of the ingredients required is yogurt? That’s revolutionary.

CmdrShepard,

This is hilarious because it invokes same exact feeling for me when I hear the name. It just screams “New York socialite.”

CmdrShepard,

“Captain Laserhawk” sounds like a car audio store from the 1990s.

CmdrShepard,

It’s almost as if we’re all different people.

What can we do about major sites blocking VPN providers?

I use ProtonVPN for everything, and I’ve started noticing more and more sites simply blocking me if I try to connect to them through ProtonVPN. As much as it sucks, I’ve more or less become acclimated to having to deal with an increased number of captchas while using a VPN; but I’m pretty angry about being blocked...

CmdrShepard,

I’ve had this exact scenario happen with my Amazon account. One the one hand its annoying, but on the other I don’t want them to make it easier for someone in another country to order stuff using my account and credit card.
