Shout out to the open source engine recreation Force Engine. It’s a neat way of playing this game on modern computers.

Yeah it’s weird how privacy and piracy have blended together over the years.

With some games you need to pirate them if you don’t want a Russian nesting doll of launchers and accounts that are able to leak your information and fill your computer with bloat.

I do find the argument interesting some YouTubers try to make about ad blockers being a form of piracy.

@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

Sure pirated games run that risk but communities are big enough to usually snuff it out quickly if it’s a malware filled crack.

Big time. Even rumours of a repackers adding malware blow up on communities like this.

Core characters in the repack community also occasionally ask for and receive donations. I’ve donated to DODI, FitGirl, and Gnarly. Hopefully they receive enough to discourage them from anything malicious but they’re also adored and respected by the community.

Going through legitimate means a PC gamer is likely to have steam, epic games launcher, blizzard launcher, EA, Ubisoft, and probably more I can’t think of. Many of these are clunky and slow and demand online connectivity or multiple sign in auths every time you just want to play a damn single player, offline game

I purchased a Call of Duty title recently and that was a big thing. The amount of ads in the launcher was wild.

Games on Android

Other than FOSS games for android/ emulators, is there a way to get games that are privacy respecting and free. I’ve seen versions of games, including paod games on piracy sites and I wonder if they are infact better. My niblings love usimg my phone for games but havent liked anything yet, tolerate lato and towerjumper at...

just stick with trusted modders such as Derren or Balatan.

Do they upload on Mobilism?

Munich’s city government switched to Linux for a few years as part of a push towards open source software.

There’s some programs like One Laptop per Child that donate laptops running Linux to education programs. I think Pine64 ended up donating a chunk of their base-level Pinebooks to some schools but I can’t find a blog post that states where they donated them to.

Not sure if this is what you were looking for.

OP may need to install ADB and enable USB debugging. Here’s a guide if they don’t know how

This might be obvious but when you connect your phone to your PC have you enabled file transfers? Usually it defaults to charging only. It should show up in your notification bar.

Tremblay’s view on physical games isn’t that shocking, considering he’s a director of subscriptions, but he does leave out some concerns shared by many when it comes to subscription services. For starters, games actually do come and go on these services right now, with the most recent example being Grand Theft Auto 5 leaving Xbox Game Pass. If you play games only via subscription services, you can very easily lose access to certain titles on a regular basis.

Secondly, games that are pulled from online stores, for one reason or another, would mean they cease to exist in an all-digital future. Two high profile example are the original Alan Wake and Ubisoft’s very own The Crew, both of which were pulled due to licensing issues. While the former eventually returned to digital storefronts thanks to the recent remaster, The Crew can no longer be bought and will poof out of existence on March 31, 2024.

I can see a lot of people being fine with that idea when it comes to subscriptions. I think people have kind of gotten used to the idea with content coming and going off of sites like Netflix.

I thought this has to do with DRM and license agreements when I first saw it.

Even if I pay for a Ubisoft game through a place like Steam I still download it elsewhere because I hate going through their launcher.

Yeah I like it. It reminds me of how Ask Reddit used to be.

Ever since Ask Reddit removed the body section of posts, just leaving people with the title section to work with, I feel like it’s mostly been generic dull questions where everyone says basically the same thing and doesn’t elaborate.

Prime examples:

Q: Men what is something we can all agree on?

A: We’ve all fantasized about being the hero in some daydream scenario.

and

Q: What is the most basic thing you are terrible at?

A: Holding a conversation.

I’d rather hear about someone’s struggles to install Arch Linux

Hardware security key options?

I've been thinking about getting a hardware security key and have heard of yubikey before; but I want to see what my options are and if they are worth it in your opinion.
My current setup is a local KeePassXC database (that I sync between my PC and phone and also acts as TOTP authenticator app), I know that KeePass supports hardware keys for unlocking the database.

I am personally still of the belief that passwords are the safest when done right; but 2FA/MFA can greatly increase security on top of that (again, if done right).
The key work work together with already existing passwords, not replace them.

As I use linux as my primary OS I do expect it to support it and anything that doesn't I will have to pass on.

PS: what are the things I need to know about these hardware keys that's not being talked about too much, I am very much delving into new territory and want to make sure I'm properly educated before I delve in.

Yubikeys can work with KeePassDX you just need to install the key driver and have NFC enabled

Also I’m pretty sure you are always supposed to touch the key initially when you use it for things like unlocking your KeePass database and what not

You didn’t mention what features you need. I’m saying it’s option that might work for someone who just wants to fetch some metrics from their vehicle
