US residents: What big domestic policy improvements have the american people won from congress in the last 30 years? (kbin.social)

Interpret improvements as you like. For me it's any large scale reforms or legislative packages designed to improve the country for all or see to the material interests of the majority without overly benefiting the elite....

It only applies to Medicare recipients … which is better than nothing I suppose.

The Infrastructure Bill, the CHIPS Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act are huge examples from the Biden presidency.

From those we’re getting tons of bridges fixed, Internet upgrades, public transit improvements, research funded for climate change (including locally, Akron received finding for researching alternative polymers that don’t rely on oil), domestic security improvements from domestic chip manufacturing, port and airport upgrades, funding to increase the size of EV charging networks, power grid upgrades to help with all of that, labor got a huge boon as all of these bills encourage or require domestic manufacturing, medicare drug negotiation, we’re replacing ALL the lead pipes in public water supply lines, more fixes to tax cheats from corporations and rich people, and funds to cleanup superfund sites.

People really don’t realize how much Biden has gotten done; especially when compared to other recent presidents … like Mr. Build A Wall.

The affordable care act while controversial was also very big as you said.

I think it’s more… What other people did with the bidet hardware that might result in it spraying other things with said tap water.

See “the cons”. I’m lightly convinced for private residences… Public restrooms as awful as I’ve seen them, I don’t know about.

Dang! Thanks for the detailed list, this had to take a while! Definitely going to look through it when I get a chance!

Literally never have understood why a type of container makes something gross to some people.,.

Same thing with color of something. I mean, I at least get that in terms of color X is associated with Y… Just seems strange to me.

Unfortunately they’ve outsourced to Vietnam. I can attest I have several USA made go ruck packs … and they do still sell a few like that. But they’ve mostly outsourced; YMMV.

The main thing that kills cables is sitting a phone in portrait on one’s chest and having it plugged in for charging. That creates a nice 90-degree or nearly 90-degree bend that just destroys the cable over time.

I’ve had my Breville Tea Maker for years now … to the point the labels on some buttons are worn off … one of my favourite purchases.

If there’s one brand I’m not buying again it’s LG.

I know of two LG dishwashers (mine and my parents) that have… issues.

My fridge from them is okay but I’m fairly confident there have been a few times that freeze portion had gone significantly above its set temperature because some popsicles melted. I’ve also had issues with the ice maker design not actually knocking down the ice so I have to open up the door and bang on it to break it loose, at which point a few pieces of ice fly onto the floor.

My oven/electric range from them well … so far so good on that one. I do wish there were actual knobs/buttons instead of the weird “touch” buttons but that just seems to be the trend these days.

My Samsung washer and dryer have been doing fine.

My only complaint is the drier doesn’t have an option to run for long enough to dry a blanket out on low heat. So I have to do several manual runs.

I just wanted to say thanks … I’m having a bit of a bad day and that genuinely made me laugh out loud

Which of the U.S. national parks in this image do you think is the most worth visiting? There are three exceptions. (lemmy.world)

We’re talking about a vacation this summer so we can plan ahead. My mother (who will pay for it) said she’d love to go to Yellowstone, but it looks like it’s about a 24-hour drive for us. Still, I like the idea of going to a national park. We’re in Indiana, so this image shows about the limits of where we’re willing to...

If you’re going by Athens anyways, you should definitely check out Hocking Hills! It’s a very pretty state park with some fantastic waterfalls.

This is my favorite rack mount chassis I’ve worked with … and it coincidentally is in that ballpark.

Yeah no millennial is doing that to fit in/not feel old (okay there are probably some but they’re a minority for sure), at best they’re doing that to be annoying/make fun of the crazy slang.

Dark_Arc,
@Dark_Arc@social.packetloss.gg avatar

Right? We used to be like “this is written like how some 60 year old executive thinks kids these days talk … nobody talks like this we just talk normally…”

I think you’ve got Gen Z and Millennials backwards.

digitaltrends.com/…/apple-iphone-getting-rcs-2024…

Maybe try searching what I said first…?

Dark_Arc,
@Dark_Arc@social.packetloss.gg avatar

You’re right, I’ve updated my reply… Hopefully someday that will be a generic RCS feature not exclusive to Google and/or Apple and Google will work to make the E2EE work between their two systems.

Dark_Arc, (edited )
@Dark_Arc@social.packetloss.gg avatar

You definitely shouldn’t invest time in SMS. Without RCS (or some custom messaging protocol support), “texting apps” are pretty much a dead market.

RCS is both more secure and more user friendly than SMS can be by design. Once the iPhone gets RCS support in the coming months/years, this will be especially true.

Dark_Arc,
@Dark_Arc@social.packetloss.gg avatar

I disagree… Have you ever actually seen this work, even remotely well?

Like the way replies work, particularly when you’re mixing threaded and linear responses (i.e., Lemmy and Mastodon) is just a mess.

It’s a very common game here, especially for children (and has been for decades)… Here’s an example youtu.be/8N2Ha1FuBr4?si=XN9QeSYPrg1JzBuR

It’s very similar to where is Waldo if you’ve heard of that, except “Waldo” can be anything the person who’s running the game wants it to be.

All good, culture is weird. Definitely a strange reference by Google to begin with
