It’s not OSS so I I’m not paying/supporting it financially. I don’t mind donating to a good ad-free (F)OSS client though.

Uses ads so I’ll pass

I really miss a good Lemmy mobile client though…I was using liftoff which reminded a lot of RIF, but that seems to have been abandoned completely. A lot have ads, so that’s a hard pass for me. I’m currently using Thunder, but it’s a pretty buggy mess TBH with a lot of UI oddities and bugs.

Filled with ads and not open source, so not for me.

Sync has ads and isn’t open source, so that’s a big no thank you from me.

What kind og software did you need to find? Last time i did a fresh install of win10 (a couple of weeks ago), I downloaded Rufus to make the bootable USB and that was the only thing I needed to go “fish for all over the internet”… 30min later I was up and running, updates scheduled to run during the night when I didn’t need to use the computer.

Next smartphone I buy, which one do you recommend?

Things that make me angry about my current smartphone Samsung Galaxy S21Ultra on a Verizon plan is the mandatory software updates in which they install WITHOUT MY PERMISSION stupid apps like Netflix and addictive gambling games and stacking block games and Candy crush. God knows what else they install without my permission. I...

How well does apps that require locked bootloaders, non-rooted device etc. work on grapheneOS? We have an official 2FA app in my country that’s used for digital identification for everything from banking to social security services. Right now it isn’t working on my oneplus 9p with lineage, despite using magisk and passing safetynet check, because it still detects that my phone is rooted.

DreadPotato,

Hmm, my lineage OS phone passes basic integrity check, and my banking apps all work as intended, as do other government apps. But this damn 2FA app is still complaining and refuses to work, saying the phone is insecure.

Pi-Hole or something else for network ad blocking?

I’ve been aware of pi-hole for a while now, but never bothered with it because I do most web browsing on a laptop where browser extensions like uBlock origin are good enough. However, with multiple streaming services starting to insert adds into my paid subscriptions, I’m looking to upgrade to a network blocker that will...

What makes adguard home better than pihole? Genuinely curious, I’m running pihole now and have been for a couple of years without issues.

Luckily two us all you need…the rest are just for redundancy.

Seems like a GDPR nightmare waiting to happen for them

I'm looking for a privacy respecting vacuum robot

I’m looking for a vacuum robot preferably under 500€ and with a cleaning station. My main concern is that most robot vacuum providers seem to need to be connected to the internet. Are there any providers that either don’t need that, where I can block the internet connection or any other way not getting a spy in my home?...

Damn, thats a pretty short list og supported models

Obviously the committee in charge of this ordeal are cat-people…bunch of heartless psychopaths, just like their pets.

I like to be in control of what gets closed and when, so nothing gets closed before I bookmark it if need it.

DreadPotato, (edited )
@DreadPotato@sopuli.xyz avatar

I bookmark stuff I need at a later time, or will need again, and read the stuff I want to read now and close the tab when I’m done.

DreadPotato,
@DreadPotato@sopuli.xyz avatar

What kind of psychopath has that many tabs open!?

DreadPotato, (edited )
@DreadPotato@sopuli.xyz avatar

It’s just kind of sucks that updates consistently breaks banking apps and other stuff relying of passing safetynet. Every time I update I have to do the Magisk workaround again which is really annoying.

DreadPotato,
@DreadPotato@sopuli.xyz avatar

Yeah it’s a bit weird with FF, I just purge open tabs for unnecessary tabs daily.

DreadPotato,
@DreadPotato@sopuli.xyz avatar

So do I, for a few days. If I haven’t read it by then, I’ll either bookmark for later or just close. I pretty much never have more than 10-15 active tabs ever.

issues with QbitTorrent stalled torrents

I am just getting back my sea legs, but apparently they’re pretty shaky because I can’t get my ubuntu torrent (no seriously, it is) to download. It never starts downloading and is stuck in “stalled”. I’ve tried a number of things, but even with default settings it isn’t starting. I’m using proton VPN on Linux Mint,...

RaspberryPi becoming unresponsive at random intervals

Issue Description: I have been having this issue with my raspberry pi running dietPi where it seems to lock up and I cannot SSH / access any of the services on it. The interesting part is that the interface seems to be up and I can still ping it on the local network but shows no video output. usually I get about 3-6 days before...

DreadPotato,

This is likely an issue with your SD card…Pi’s eat them up, even the good ones that supposedly can handle it get chewed up pretty quickly. It really sucks that they haven’t transitioned to emmc but insist on using SD cards.

Insight on how the ADs network is built?

Does any of you know firsthand how the ad industry works? I hate them with all my heart and I already go out of my way to block them but maybe you have been on the other side of the fence and can share some internal insight on what to focus on to really disrupt the data collection. I.e. even if I use uBlock can the ad network...

The thumbnail alone is reason to avoid the video entirely.
