Endorkend, to asklemmy in Ancient wisdom often sounds like common sense now that it is commomly taught. What is some ancient wisdom that we no longer teach because it was wrong?

Most forms of medical advice, some of it stuck around for a long ass time (bloodletting and the idea of spirits and humors lasted several millennia), but I imagine that the vast majority of it is lost to time.

You don't even have to go all that far back to see this in action.

In the 90's, the universal medical advice was to avoid fats, sauces and dear lord never eat more than 2-3 eggs in a week or you'll have a coronary before 40.

You still shouldn't go overboard with fats and sauce which is made with fat, but the advice that you shouldn't eat more than 2-3 eggs in a week is entirely defunct now.

You can eat 2-3 eggs a day (which many people do without even knowing as eggs are used in a whole lot of things) without any medical disadvantages.

My downstairs neighbor seems to be wearing some of those glass breaking pens you can buy for emergencies, as heels.

Our apartment is incredibly well sound proofed, you can't hear any of the city noise and usually can't even hear the elevator bell on our floor, even though it's obnoxiously loud. You also can't hear voices, radio or TV from downstairs.

But yet my downstairs neighbor, who apparently ALWAYS wears heels and can't sit down for longer than 5 minutes, manages to make it sound like someone is constantly hammering a nail into solid concrete, with every step she makes.

The tack tack tack tack noise coming from down there, you can figure out where she is in her place, simply by where the sound goes and comes from. From that I know that while most of the layout of her apartment seems the same, two doors are in places where we have walls.

A bucket of salt is probably more healthy for you than listening to anything a site with "facts" in the name says.

And that's not even looking at who's behind that site and the wording they use.

Remember, breathing gives you an elevated risk of lungcancer.

Before doing anything, if your screen allows it, swap DP to HDMI or HDMI to DP as output, that may fix this to the point of being able to actually boot and further fix the issue.

I've had this before with drivers where suddenly it would fail on either port but would still run on one of the others.

Yeah, doesn't take much to warp a young mind with pseudoscience and pseudo philosophical blathering.

Because the right has coopted the religious right, this is just a merger of oldschool professional religious apologists tactics into political discourse and it took scores of Atheists making videos, doing talks and going into debates to show these people for the lying pieces of shit they are.

But because they moved into fronting as purely political, rather than religious, the Atheists stay away, because it's not their fight.

    @Endorkend@kbin.social avatar

    Well, it would be no surprise to me if the messed up nature of the past 3-4 years was because Kissinger still being alive was throwing the whole world of balance.

    So him dead, is actually a sign of hope.

    That much condensed evil going on well past his time is an abomination to the natural order.

    We care that history has made it so that they for themselves can't be open about who they are while it's overly obvious our whole family doesn't care and is accepting.

    The damage the severe repression of LGBTQ+ in society has done, that still lingers in people strong enough that they can't be who they are while nobody around them would see anything wrong with them being out.

    How sad that is is what we care about.

    I have an aunt who to this day lives together with her best friend.

    50 years and counting.

    We have regular family gatherings with me 300+ head extended family (1 weekend per year and 2 gathering afternoons per year) and we have over 20 gay couples in the mix.

    LGBTQ+ acceptance is universal in my family.

    They still are in the closet and saying they are just friends.

    Friends that sleep in a single bed hotel room and smooch when people aren't watching.

    The thing with Google isn't that they removed the "don't be evil" mantra they held for 2 decades.

    It's that in the 5 years since officially removing that mantra, they've done their best to be the most cartoonishly evil they can be.

    Well, the kernel is Linux and the OS is whatever the distribution or special purpose is called.

    There is a distinction as Linux is used in far more than operating systems and at times is run with just the kernel and an application, with no possible interface between any user and application.

    Problem is that most Linux desktop users have fuck all clue what Linux is all used for and wouldn't know how to interface with 99% of all the linux running devices on the planet.

    Endorkend, to asklemmy in So Kissinger must have had use to someone? What did he do right and for who?
    @Endorkend@kbin.social avatar

    His use was that by his nature of wanting to create as much misery and mayham around the world as one person could possibly do, he created a lot of wealth for a lot of people attached to the military industrial complex.
