Smarter every day recently had a talk with NASA engineers where he said something that resonated with me.
“Its often discussed that if you could go back in time, you could change one thing, and observe a huge change in the following events.
But we never consider that we have that same power right now, today. Actions now can influence a wide variety of future outcomes.”
With some self reflection you can be the time traveler of scifi.
Some things are out of our control, but many are not, and simple changes, say, about our personal wellness or how we treat others can have big ramifications.
Even if you’re armed with the choice weapon, and skilled, 3 knights on foot looking to fuck you up are gonna do so lol. Those guys were brawlers more than anything else
It’s because Satan still likes all the stuff God likes, he just got kicked out.
So he’s got like, a super fucked up punisher/batman thing going on where he fails to acknowledge his own faults but sees all the sinners arriving in hell as deplorable, and deserving punishment.
Regarding the first, homelessness was illegal, and you could be in a lot of trouble (including execution) for being out after curfew. People lived in catacombs and tunnels to avoid detection, and if they were half as bad as described, it was a hellish life.
The second, if I recall correctly, there was a tax to enter the city. Even for “citizens” going out for the day or whatever
So if you were desperately poor, you couldn’t even hunt for work outside the city without commiting to stay away until you could pay to reenter. So there became a trap where people were too poor to leave, too poor to get a legal residence, and had to find somewhere the guards wouldn’t hassle them.
I’m sure some of this is a bit different, but if it’s even close, it’s a brutal trap to be stuck in
