Gimpydude,

Here’s my advice. The most important things are that you have a free GPU slot and another PCIE slot on whatever you get. You’re going to want a GPU for transcoding when disk space gets tight. You want the extra PCIE slot for a sas card. Disk shelves are surprisingly cheap, and you can keep adding disk that way. They daisy chain.

As far as the OS, I’m partial to Unraid and Truenas but seriously, anything you are comfortable with will work.

Gimpydude,

I think we need to know more about this, especially the goat.

Gimpydude,

Pastelles. Find some grandma who makes them by the thousand. Don’t buy Goya, they won’t be as good.

Gimpydude,

Botty McBotface. I know, not the most original.

Whisparr is so much better with Postgres for its data back end

I have a library of videos that I’ve downloaded with whisparr running in a docker container. I’ve had a problem with the sqlite DB getting corrupted on a daily basis. I followed the guide on switching to postgres and it only took about 15 minutes, including setting up a postgres server. I really recommend anyone running it...

Gimpydude,

I totally agree. I’ve been using it on and off since the 90’s but I’ve never known that you can use it with the *arr apps.

Gimpydude,

I’m going to move my others to postgres as well. It’s dead simple and so much better.

Gimpydude,

Santa Paravia en Fiumaccio. It was a tex based strategy game on the TRS 80 written in basic. You played a feudal lord and tried to grow your empire. Each turn was a year. It was a text only game, but I’m pretty sure they had a graphics version at one point. When I say graphics, it was the upper half of the ASCII character set mapped over to block characters. This was in the 70’s.

Gimpydude,

Not criticizing in any way, but what’s the attraction of IPTV these days? Aside from sports, I just don’t see the attraction. Lots of free sources of live TV out there.

Gimpydude,

Malware for Linux is a thing. I see it every day.

Gimpydude,

I’ve never heard of that, thanks. I don’t think I’ll be pirating games but this looks really good

Gimpydude,

I want to know too, but also I really don’t.

Gimpydude,

That’s a long read. Here’s what I do

  • Install Lutris or Heroic
  • Install your game
  • Play your game

Fitgirl and steam unlocked are your friends.

Gimpydude,

Well played my friend!

Gimpydude,

Yeah, makes sense. I’m an old timer so I’m used to rolling my own. I definitely see how the details are useful for someone starting out.
