GlendatheGayWitch,

That’s kind of what the old Google Maps did 20 years ago. Now Google Maps will yell you to exit a highway in order to stay on that highway.

GlendatheGayWitch,

I have managed to sleep on my back once in my life. It was also the only night that I slept with my eyes open because I was so exhausted

Why are we required to sit down when getting our blood pressure taken? Would the results be affected if we were standing?

when patients get their blood pressure taken at the doctor’s office, the doctor requires you to sit, legs uncrossed. But what would happen if we stand up to get our blood pressure taken? can we stand? or do we have to sit? And why?

GlendatheGayWitch,

It does make a difference. After a car wreck, a neurologist was assessing me and took my blood pressure acouole times. Once after standing up and sitting back down and another after sitting for a while. Not sure the exact reason, but it does make a difference.

GlendatheGayWitch,

Another thing I didn’t see mentioned is the positioning of the strings and the opening of the piano lid. In a grand piano with the lid open, the strings are slightly above the base of the piano and the sound bouces up to the lid and out to the audience. In an upright piano with the lid open, the sound bounces between the walls of the piano before bouncing off the lid toward the audience. This will lead to a difference in tone and make the upright sound a little more stuffy than a grand piano.

GlendatheGayWitch,

It’s been rough and it’s not over yet. Lots of broken pipes and sprinkler heads. Thankfully there wasn’t much ice on the roads or it would’ve been very dangerous.

I am worried about the future, as long as I’ve been alive I’ve only been in negative wind chills 2 times in Texas and the last one was 2021. Last weekend, i saw wind chill around -5 or -8 and this was after a particularly hot summer with plenty of Temps around 110. Usually we are in the 40s with dips down to the 20s when it gets cold.

And of course, the government is doing more to male the problems worse tha better

GlendatheGayWitch,

I wouldn’t call Republicans winning by 10% of the vote to be overwhelming. I think that kind of narrative only serves to help Republicans by reinforcing the idea that it’s hopeless for democrats to win. Also doesn’t help that a lot of media only talk about elections and not the 2 week early voting period that we have. It’s so bizarre that early voting isn’t as well-known, given that TX was one of, if not the first, state to enact an early voting period over 40 years ago. NY only just started early voting a couple years ago!

GlendatheGayWitch,

I’m a night owl, which means I have to be exhausted to sleep earlier

GlendatheGayWitch,

Actually SCOTUS ruled that extending the copyright pulls it out of public domain in Golan v Holder. Congress passed a law that put some literary and musical works back into copyright from the public domain. A case was brought by some educators and musicians that the removal of these works from the public domain infri get on their free speech, but the Court disagreed 6-2.

US residents: What big domestic policy improvements have the american people won from congress in the last 30 years? (kbin.social)

Interpret improvements as you like. For me it's any large scale reforms or legislative packages designed to improve the country for all or see to the material interests of the majority without overly benefiting the elite....

GlendatheGayWitch,

When minimum wage was increased to $7.25/hour (although it should be increased again).

Affordable Care Act

Funding for covid tests and vaccines

Don’t know if these count, since they only come from SCOTUS decisions however Congress has not written a law stripping these rights. Right to have a same-sex relationship (2003) Right to marry a same-sex partner (2015) Right to employment while LGBT (2020)

GlendatheGayWitch,

There were also Cash for Clubker programs (although that could’ve just been state level) that gave people money to buy a newer car with better gas milage to help the environment and keep people from using as much gas.

Stimulus checks at the end of Bush presidency and during covid. As far as I know, those were the first, creating a precedent that the government could sometimes provide financial relief directly to citizens.

GlendatheGayWitch,

The ACA isn’t the end goal for sure, but it’s better than where we were before. Hopefully as people get used to it, we will be more likely to pass a universal healthcare system.
