GunnarRunnar,

Too one sided and perfect. Pretty good way to kill a few minutes reading though. If I were on Reddit, I'd make my way r/amitheangel to see what's the opinion there.

GunnarRunnar,

It's a bit different to grab a snack at the counter (that's likely partly produced in your country) than wait 1-2 months for a product to even arrive. Call it a convenience factor or whatever.

That said, I don't know what kind of labor AliExpress goods use. Haven't used them for a couple years but if I knew for sure (maybe someone here knows?) they used slave labor for example I probably would just choose to use some other company (which probably is just as likely to have unethical practices in some point of their supply chain tbf).

GunnarRunnar,

Sure I agree to a degree but choosing a product which you know uses 100% slave labor to save a penny is downright evil. (And this is exaggeration obviously before anyone butts in.)

GunnarRunnar,

Fyi just tried the app and it still loaded Reddit for me.

GunnarRunnar,

It already exists. Just look how YouTube demonetizes whatever.

GunnarRunnar,

I'm not following? Free speech usually means that you have freedom to express yourself, not that you're speaking for no pay lol.

GunnarRunnar,

This conversation wasn't about free speech, it was about companies fiddling with speech.

GunnarRunnar,

And obviously you're deincentivising the creator from making more content in that certain style at least. Steering the speech to certain direction.

GunnarRunnar,

Who is talking about it being illegal?

GunnarRunnar,

Tf is "speech" then if not communicating lol

GunnarRunnar,

What is it then?

GunnarRunnar,

No one's saying they aren't. Doesn't mean I have to like it either. Or that their decisions can't be criticized.

GunnarRunnar,

I really don't know where you got that from. And I'm not freaking demanding anything. Just pointing out things that corporates be doing. Can't we fucking have conversation about how corporations can use their power to influence and direct conversation to be more "ad friendly" without people butting in with "aCtUally it'S wElL witHin thEiR righTS". I know that. I think most people do. Doesn't mean we can't talk about it or shit on the company.

You are free to understand me any which way you want but "speech" exists also on non-public or self-owned platforms. That's just dumb to argue otherwise. I'm right here, "speeching" away, on someone else's platform.

GunnarRunnar,

Tf are you talking about?

GunnarRunnar,

Yeah dude let's just agree to disagree on this one. Exhausting.

AnalogyAddict, to RedditMigration

As a victim of domestic violence who has spent years online trying to help other victims, Reddit's act of undeleting several of my deleted comments just made me have to go through and manually delete. In the process, I had to relive a huge chunk of trauma.

I'm not feeling okay right now.

GunnarRunnar,

@AnalogyAddict There's so much strenght to be able to push yourself through that. Hope you'll feel better.

GunnarRunnar,

Fucking dumb to force them to reopen and then when mods say fuckit ban the sub. This is some bad parenting.

Instead of deleting your Reddit account, consider using chatgpt to make comments instead

And make sure not to click on any links. If enough people use chatgpt or other LLM's to generate comments that are wordy but clearly just filler, it'll give advertisers pause and tank the value of the site as training data. Reddit's response will probably be to start banning users it thinks are doing this but normal users will...

GunnarRunnar,

I'd presume companies have scraped all the data on Reddit and packed it into a neat little package so editing old comments for that reason would be kind of moot. There was even a torrent of Reddit data afaik?

Does anyone else hope the bulk of Reddit stays there?

I think my favorite thing about Lemmy is that it feels like Reddit used to. Less negativity, more engaged users (I think). I know it will be fun to watch Reddit die, but if I put spite aside what I’m really mad at Reddit about is more about what Reddit became and maybe part of that is when the general internet user started...

GunnarRunnar,

So call me what you will but I just want a new "Reddit". I want a place where I can come up with a niche and find a place where people are talking about it. Whether it's experts or enthusiasts but I want to shared experience of "talking about X".
