I think there were talking about choosing another channel

Hello from kbin

HeartyBeast, to upliftingnews in Once on the brink of extinction, Lundy Island wild bird numbers soar
@HeartyBeast@kbin.social avatar

Loads. Not just seabirds, but lots of heath and farmland birds too.

Puffins were almost impossible to see, though. We went in Easter when they are there nesting. Their burrows are on a cliff edge and you could only really see them from a neighbouring cliff/headland. Both binoculars you could just about make them out from their distinctive orange feet

HeartyBeast, to asklemmy in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?
@HeartyBeast@kbin.social avatar

I've always worn a watch. I got myself a smartwatch when my kids kept insisting on texting me, while I was cycling home - usually while I wasa half way up a hill. Much better than rummaging to get my phone only to find it was some bit of nonsense.

Subsequently bought an Apple Watch 4 which I still have today and wear daily. I find it very sndy for reminders, as a fitness tracker and like the Apple Maps haptic direction prompts

HeartyBeast, to science_memes in trees are pretty great.
@HeartyBeast@kbin.social avatar

This seems pretty dismissive of the work that field ecologists and botanists do - and the rigorous nature of their work

HeartyBeast, to linux in What happens when Linus dies/retires?
@HeartyBeast@kbin.social avatar

They will finally release HURD

HeartyBeast, to mensliberation in Study suggest men refuse to ditch meat because it threatens their masculinity
@HeartyBeast@kbin.social avatar

Pretty bad editorialising of the headline there, OP. That's really not what the study showed. It was more nuanced than that.

Oooh. What are your favourite films?

HeartyBeast, to movies in Box Office: ‘The Marvels’ Gets Grounded With MCU’s Second-Lowest Opening Day Ever
@HeartyBeast@kbin.social avatar

I thought the 1st Captain Marvel was pretty fun. I don’t have much of an interest in seeing this though.

HeartyBeast, to movies in Why is everything a sequel, reboot or remake?
@HeartyBeast@kbin.social avatar

It’s low risk - or, it’s at least a more quantifiable risk. It’s easier for studios to be able to estimate the returns on investment

HeartyBeast, to movies in Well, it was nice while it lasted?
@HeartyBeast@kbin.social avatar

I see you haven’t sorted out your pension yet

HeartyBeast, to memes in Vegan food: The west vs India
@HeartyBeast@kbin.social avatar

I don't think meat substitutes is is the major problem to worry about. In fact, perhaps they could help?

HeartyBeast, to mensliberation in Study suggest men refuse to ditch meat because it threatens their masculinity
@HeartyBeast@kbin.social avatar

My apologies, when I read the article originally, it had a very different headline.

Edit Original headline I saw was: "New study finds that masculine language, reshapes men’s perspectives on vegan dishes "

@HeartyBeast@kbin.social avatar

Ah, I’m seeing “ Study suggest men refuse to ditch meat because it threatens their masculinity”

HeartyBeast, to memes in Buying a new car is not better than keeping an old one
@HeartyBeast@kbin.social avatar

I'm in London. I cycle to work and use the tube network and bus network whenever I can. I also have a private car which I use for trips where public transport or my bike is impractical. It's a 2016 model, I expect that it may need replacing in 5 years time. If I took the cartoon at face value, I might think it makes no difference from a climate chang perspective whether I choose petrol or electric - and this is clearly wrong.
