Hirom,

The scam has “Trump” in its name, that’s a big red flag.

As a side note, pease consider posting US-specific articles and local news to c/usnews.

Hirom,

I watched it a second time to be sure. While the voiceover doesn’t say “Holy War” he does cite religion and sounds like religious radicals dog-whistle.

There’s good reasons to be critical of Netanyahu government, but I’d still suggest seeking better sources.

Hirom,

Mods appears to be flexible with rule and take gentler approach when it’s not abuse. That’s a good approach.

The line can be blurry between US News that’s relevant at the local/national level and fit better within c/usnews, and relevant globally and may fit better in c/worldnews readers. Here I’d argue it’s the former.

Hirom,

Posting this on c/usnews should be enough.

Hirom,

Reuters reports the women shouted ‘You’re all going to die’ in a metro station and was threatening, quoting the prosecutor.

www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/…/ar-AA1j9SMo

The investigation and video recording will be important to verify this.

If the reporting is accurate, police shot an unarmed women believing she was going to blow herself up. It might be an attempt at suicide by cop.

If it’s inaccurate it might be a tragic police blunder.

Hirom,

Governments should definitely have done a better job to ease tensions and avoid faith-based hate and backlash for muslims.

A good thing officials could do is explicitly oppose to the rhetoric of religioius war that Daech/Isis is trying to spread, and defend France’s universalist model that aims and succeed in large part to have citizens of all faith peacefully cohabit.

Note Hijab is banned in a few places like schools. I don’t think it’s a good law but wanted to point out the ban isn’t countrywide.

Hirom, (edited )

There’s little doubt of the attacker motive given he invoked his god, and given the timing. But nothing suggest the teacher was personally targeted for his faith. He may have been the first person the attacker ran into.

There have been a few articles about Dominique Bernard, the teacher who fell victim. AFP/Sud Ouest talk about his professional life and character. France Bleu says students like him, and that he interposed himself between the attacker and others. Neither suggest he was targeted for his faith, or even mention his faith at all.

Update: La Croix/AFP quote a few people who knew the victim, speaking highly of him, and say the victim is member of a familiy of “enlightened Catholics”

Hirom,

I only mentioned his familiy’s faith because you mentioned it. This murder is front page news and talked at length by medias, but your comment is the first time I heard of his supposed faith, so I went and checked.

It would be interesting to understand the motivation. This might be an attack on the school as an institution, which affects people of all faith.

There’s no justification for killing innocent civilians, Jewish or not.

Hirom,

Do you happen to have any source for these reports?

Hirom,

Higher oil prices are motivating people to move away from oil, hopefully toward electrification & renewables. Or at the very least, motivating people to lower their fuel consumption.

Hirom,

The article doesn’t mention air supply issue. But it says the women had no health problem.

The truck was just 6 degrees Celsius (43 degrees Fahrenheit) inside, said Francart, Villefranche-sur-Saône’s prosecutor. The women were all wearing thick coats and had no health problems, she said.

It sounds like they called for help because they realized the truck was going in the wrong direction, not so much because of health concerns.

Hirom,

In 2021, the E.U. approved feeding insect protein to chickens

Free range chickens have always eaten insects. They eat any insect or seed or small animal they find in the soil.
