The current flag dates back to the middle ages, maybe as far as the 12th century. This makes it not only one of the youngest national flags of the world (since 2004), but also one of the oldest! (Even if it has been in disuse for most of its history.)...
I found the flag on Wikipedia, but I cannot find any reliable sources verifying that it is actually used or officially adopted by somebody. So take it with a pinch of salt....
The provinces of Sweden are historical and cultural regions. Today, they no longer have any administrative function, but still serve as a basis of cultural identification....
The AK-47 and hoe of the Mozambican flag can also be seen as a version of the hammer and sickle, else the symbol is no longer used on national flags today....
(Since you almost need a magnifying glass to see the small purple fields in the rainbows of the flags of El Salvador and Nicaragua, I think they barely count.)...
This is a quite obscure flag that little is known about. I can’t even say that it is rotated the correct way and shouldn’t be lying down instead. However, I couldn’t help but opt for the funnier rotation....
The flag is very similar to the flag of Syria and Iraq, which had similar Arab nationalist regimes. In fact, for a time, the three countries had flags with one, two and three stars respectively!...
The presence of Angkor Wat has been remarkably stable across the various flags. It also makes the Cambodian flag on of the only four state flags to feature a building. The other are the flags of Portugal, San Marino and Spain....
This flag won a nationwide poll in 1949, but some changes were made to it afterwards, leading to the Malaysian flag we know today. The reason for these changes seems somewhat unclear, more than that the politician Onn Jaafar suggested them....
Today marks 20 years since Georgia changed its flag! They got rid of a, IMO quite ugly, brown flag, replacing it with the much prettier red and white flag of the medieval Kingdom of Georgia. (files.catbox.moe)

Trapezoids at the hoist side is a quite rare feature on flag, existing in the shadow of many triangles. What do you think about it? (images2.imgbox.com)
In my opinion a triangle generally looks better, but the trapezoid flags definitely gets points for distinctness, which shouldn’t be underestimated.

Which tricolor flag do you think is the ugliest, considering only the color combination? Here are some candidates that I have found. (files.catbox.moe)
Today is the anniversary of the independence of Turkmenistan in 1991. Soon after, a new flag was adopted. With its carpet patterns, Turkmenistan possibly has the world's most complex national flag (upload.wikimedia.org)

Today marks 17 years without the old flag of Lesotho. I still kind of miss it, and finds the new one much more boring and bland. It was also (arguably) the only national flag using brown, besides CoA (upload.wikimedia.org)
