EDIT: Well…that joke did not land. Oh well. I promise to continue undeterred as the true mission is to maintain high levels of Lemmy engagement. I am sorry to say that the occasional cringe inducing bad joke is the price y’all have to pay for the health and growth of the fediverse.
I’ve been reading the Honor Harrington book series from my local library system but I noticed them on sale in Amazon. The Kindle versions of the books are “DRM-Free at the request of the author”. That right there convinced me to buy the books.
A way to “tip” the authors anonymously would be a great addition.
I started my Linux journey in the 90’s with Red Hat Halloween. I’m sick and tired of troubleshooting and Debian based distros have been fully painless. Those of you learning your craft should absolutely try to manage things like Arch, just leave my old and tired ass be and I’ll sit here with my old kernel and cheer you on.
I taught adult education in college and always introduced people to computing with “DOS for Dummies” even though Windows was the OS they interacted with. By teaching them in a command line only environment first I could then easily teach them the desktop environment because they understood what was going on behind the scenes. I think the same could be done with Linux.
