If you want super easy then buy a GLInet portable router. Signup for a supported vpn and plug in the credentials in the portable router.

Install qbittorrent on your computer and then connect to the portable routers WiFi access point .

your whole connection should be tunneled through the vpn and you can download what you want.

Make sure you check your ip before doing anything and set a kill switch option in the router config.

I have a microserver and various pis ( zero w, 2x 3b+ and a pi b)

With the exception of the zero w they are all still in action.

The pi b connects to the pi touchscreen and displays photos from a directory every 5 minutes.

The 2x3bs are running kodi to stream from my server.

The zero w was a camera recording and streaming 24/7 but I stopped it as I wanted to do other stuff with it.

I finally nuked windows

I have been daily driving a dual booted laptop for the past two years. After a year of distro hopping I settled with fedora + kde and never looked back. I really liked the auto nvidia driver config and it made everything so pleasant to work. Since the last 8 or 9 months I decided to do gaming using bottles and proton ge. I...

Slashdot, hacker news feeds and some communities here. I dont really try to keep up with commercial tech since most of it is bundled with DRM or spyware with exceptions such as the steamdeck.

I’m only interested FOSS stuff myself. I subscribe to some security and privacy communities here in addition to some technology ones. If the news is big enough we’ll hear about it one way or another.

Discoverability happens organically out of need. Eg search “split pdfs linux” and I’ll get a cli tool for it.

Thats my take on it anyway.

It is the parents job to watch their damn kids. Or force isps to include simple blocklist toggles in their supplied routers so the parents can make a decision.

I'm looking for a privacy respecting vacuum robot

I’m looking for a vacuum robot preferably under 500€ and with a cleaning station. My main concern is that most robot vacuum providers seem to need to be connected to the internet. Are there any providers that either don’t need that, where I can block the internet connection or any other way not getting a spy in my home?...

I have an ecovacs deebot n79S and it just uses a remote. You put it on auto and let it do its thing. The pathfinding isn’t great but it does the job and you can manually control it if needs be. There is an option for connecting an app but thats not happening. As long as it comes with a remote you should be good.

I should also add that its easy to clean and pop the front wheel and rear brush out as well as the 2 spinning brushes. The dust compartment slides out easily too.

We have had it for about 2 years so far and it still runs fine.

Sound like my grandpa too. How fortunate we were to have them.

Is Ubuntu deserving the hate? (lemmy.ml)

Long story short, I have a desktop with Fedora, lovely, fast, sleek and surprisingly reliable for a near rolling distro (it failed me only once back around Fedora 34 or something where it nuked Grub). Tried to install on a 2012 i7 MacBook Air… what a slog!!! Surprisingly Ubuntu runs very smooth on it. I have been bothering all...

I used to use Ubuntu before unity and switched to Debian 👑 in 2012. I still have to use Ubuntu for work and I just get on with it. It could be worse… I could have to use windows.

Anyway my main gripes with Ubuntu are snaps and how they keep swapping packages in apt to be installed as snaps .

I dont hate it, its a tool and in most cases I can use it and there is no problem if not there are other options.

Still better off paying for a VPN in these trying times. It has more use cases and can be shared between multiple users to bring the cost down to practically nothing. You can also download and keep your Linux ISOs .

That being said if it works for you then you do you.

One option is a live CD or a VM and in this case you can restore the state after each session. In both cases only your IP, timestamps, browser details and everything you interacted with on the site is stored by Facebook. But no new hardware or cookies will be stored on your device as it is wiped each time.

Depending on the size signal could work. Syncthing would also do it too for any file size.

What’s the license for the source code ? Is it FOSS ? What is the privacy policy ?
