I just prefer sorting options that don’t weigh posts. Like New or New Comments. I don’t have nearly as many similar posts appearing on the front page sorting by New Comments, and only posts with high levels of discussion stay on the FP.
If you’re going to sort by things that count all metrics to determine what’s “popular,” it’s always going to be memes and low effort bullshit.
They already have chocolate 3D printers, and lab meat is almost or already at market somewhere and would also actually make someone money in our largely capitalist dominated world, so I’m gonna go with that.
I’m just thinking that having food safe printing stuff makes it slightly closer to reality than the other option, even if the medium would require reengineering some of the internal parts.
When I figure it out, I’ll let you know. It’ll have been literally 20 years this August since I graduated and I still don’t know what job I want. Got a big long list of jobs I’ve tried that I don’t want tho.
Does working as a security guard and having the company that contracted your company trying to get you to basically be their own personal police force count? I worked for a security company hired by Longs and the loss prevention manager of the Longs kept trying to get us to do things that, in California anyway, are illegal as a security guard. Such as digging through someone’s personal belongings. We can ask to look inside, but not touch, and we really can’t force them to comply. We could not arrest people. We couldn’t have weapons (not even allowed to carry a pocket knife while on duty with our guard cards). Little Napoleonic complex motherfucker didn’t care. He would insist that it was legal and we would just tell him to talk to our boss because he isn’t our supervisor, manager or even part of our company.
I agree with that last part; but why would someone be trying to get my text messages in the first place? There’s nothing there. I’m not holding any secrets of value to anyone for any reason. So there’s no reason for me to have crazy levels of security.
I like headphones but if the music isn’t taking advantage of the left/right channels, it doesn’t matter if I listen on my big ass stereo. My only issue with headphones is after a while, my ears start to ache (the outside part I mean) and/or get uncomfortably hot. Even with my large monitors that go completely around and don’t actually touch my ears, I start to feel like they’re being squeezed.
The only time I ever would’ve preferred silence to some background noise was when I was at a scout camp along the banks of a river and the cacophony of frogs and crickets at night was super fucking loud. I barely slept the whole time I was there.
Other than that, I always put on some kind of ambient sounds or yoga music.
Just look up “The Game of Life.” It’s not really a spread sheet, that’s simply how it’s displayed (grids of pixels that are either living, dead, or food) and it just kinda simulates an ecosystem in the most very, very basic of ways. All you can do to influence the game is change what a grid contains, with the goal (if you can say it has any) of keeping a sustainable system going.
