Have you ever pirated something? If so, have you ever been sent to jail for it?

I’m not talking about hosting companies. Yes, I am aware that prosecution exists for them and has been a thing a long time. I’m saying they’re going to start pushing for end users to face jail time as well. It’s the only real recourse they have.

Web 2.0 desperately clinging to life. FOSS self hosted web is the future. Internet speeds are fast enough on home networks that self hosting is perfectly viable for essentially everything, and for the few things that can’t be self hosted by just anyone, FOSS alternatives and work arounds to existing paid services exist.

Internet is becoming harder to monopolize, and increasing amounts of power and control are being handed back to the working class online. FOSS has become a movement that has grown exponentially over the last few years.

Their next recourse will be attempting to make jail time a thing for piracy. Both for hosting it and downloading it.

Well, this meme is specifically promoting the notion that how attractive you look directly correlates to your ability to date people. When how you look is not the be all end all of dating.

This general concept of one’s “biologically ordained appearance” being incompatible with finding love and relationships is closely tied with incel ideology. The “black pill” is generally used to denote that you’re biologically and immutably so unattractive that you will never be able to “compete in the sexual marketplace.” Felt gross just typing that. It’s also attached to the conspiracy theory of “hypergamy,” that you’re so unattractive that even women of “comparable conventional attractiveness” won’t ever date you.

The message of the meme, that someone is so unattractive they can not date anyone at all, is not explicitly incel ideology, but that notion is closely tied to it. In all likelihood this meme was made by someone in the incel community or who regularly consumes incel content.

There’s already dozens of forks. There was before all of this even started. Sad to see it go, but the app itself and how it functions will pretty well certainly go on. Tachiyomi isn’t even an app that needs routine updates, it’s the extensions that do. So existing setups will probably work indefinitely so long as extensions continue getting updates…

So, sounds very “oh fuck” but for end users probably means literally nothing changes. Unless something breaks the functionality of the app, which really just means the reader and library and everything, it doesn’t need active maintenance. Bugs might crop up occasionally, but everything looks fine as of now.

The functioning of their government is absolutely unequivocally communist. They have allowed some form of capital interests, which I would not consider communist in definition, but the government retains control over nearly all those interests and the plan they’ve put forward from the beginning is to renationalize industries as they reach a point of competitive development with the western world.

Per this report, as of 2021 they had 4396 homeless people. A rate of 0.79 per thousand people in Finland.

Which to be clear is stellar… but doesn’t have much to do with the topic of anti homeless architecture.

Unofficial extensions are still being updated. I’ve got working bato and everything. Haven’t run into issues so far. I’m not sure how this korean company got to them or why, since they’re not even hosting the content. But either way, things should be good for now.

Tachiyomi is too good to fail. It’s the best manga reader that has ever existed. It’s open source. If they need to offload extension support onto less organized entities, then so be it. The community isn’t going to disappear.

Love the incel worldview where every part of a woman’s very complex, very traumatic, very painful life can be reduced to her relationship with a man. And the framing that being a single mom who has aids (which isn’t even what she had in the movie) makes her worth less than she was before. Fucking gross. Someone will surely find a workaround to this. Half my library on tachiyomi is from mangadex lol

Edit: I did find a workaround, an unofficial repository for mangadex and bato extensions. As of the moment bato extension seems to be broken, but hopefully a patch will be released soon. The developer of the extension still plans to maintain it afaik

I was waiting for this announcement. So happy that he’s on board with us. A decade of using boost before, and I’ll use it for another when he releases boost for lemmy.

Does anyone else hope the bulk of Reddit stays there?

I think my favorite thing about Lemmy is that it feels like Reddit used to. Less negativity, more engaged users (I think). I know it will be fun to watch Reddit die, but if I put spite aside what I’m really mad at Reddit about is more about what Reddit became and maybe part of that is when the general internet user started...

I definitely hope the... simply massive amount of information stored there is archived in some way. I was troubleshooting some technical issues for a very niche hardware and software application this morning and the only sources I could find were on reddit.

I feel similarly about Discord. There is so much technical knowledge and information that would be lost in the blink of an eye if Discord shut down.
