Lafari,

We could potentially save children by persuading this psycho to rethink their choices

Lafari,

Don’t you want to help me convince this person that pedophilia is wrong/child sexual abuse and they shouldn’t support it?

Why do people not understand that you can agree with one thing someone said or did while disagreeing with the majority of what they stand for? (www.youtube.com)

An example is that I generally despise Jordan Peterson and most of what he says, but I often quote one thing that Jordan Peterson said (in the linked video) because I think it’s a good summary of why toxic positivity doesn’t work....

Lafari, (edited )

Well I completely agree with you there 😂

What’s with all the downvotes with no explanation?

I’m in favor of censorship in some cases - which is why it really takes an insane amount of ridiculous nonsensical censorship that actually hinders constructive online communication for me to be saying there’s a problem with censorship. I thought I’d never say there was a censorship problem, but there really is now, although it seems mostly restricted to YouTube. Elon Musk’s Twitter has some stupid censorship too, though. It takes away accountability when things can’t even be criticised anymore, and misinformation/disinformation is allowed but can’t be corrected, for example.

Lafari,

The real problem with YouTube is the censorship, both of creators and commenters, when they aren’t saying anything offensive or problematic but simply referencing different companies, corporations, governments, countries or industries.

Should I wait for the "Snyder cut" (director's cut) of Rebel Moon?

Hearing the movie is getting bad reviews. But Snyder says the director’s cut will be a completely different movie with a different vision. I admit Zack Snyder’s Justice League (director’s cut) was much better than the theatrical version and quite different (though I had mostly forgotten the original by then). Not sure if I...

Lafari,

I think Australians do the worst New Zealand accents and vice versa. So maybe closely related countries just don’t understand each other/their differences as much as vastly different countries in certain cases? In some ways it’s the other way around tho so idk.

Lafari,

I’m interested about the Army of the Dead sequel ‘Planet of the Dead’ as crazy as it sounds.

+100 for Barry, that show was too good and underrated. I don’t know if I’ll find a show as great as that for a while, but thankful Fargo is still on.

As far as A24, I think Robert Eggers’ ‘The Lighthouse’ and Ari Aster’s ‘Beau Is Afraid’ are my favorites.

Another weird movie I enjoyed recently is Triangle of Sadness (2022). Oh and ‘Enemy’ (2013) was so artistic, I think. Also ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ (2022), what a movie.

Boots Riley’s debut film and TV show, Sorry to Bother You and I’m a Virgo, respectively, were amazing as well.

I haven’t seen the ‘X’ films or Frankenstein’s (…) but I will have to now.

Lafari,

I found the new Avatar lacklustre as well. Dune wasn’t my thing either. Big hopes for the Jak and Daxter film but that’s mostly because I hope it will spawn a new game. Enjoying the fifth season of the TV show ‘Fargo’ airing at the moment which is mostly consistently good.

Lafari,

It gave me vibes of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets but I suspect it won’t be anywhere near as good as that film sadly

Lafari,

I realise it’s a dumb question

Lafari,

I guess I’m wondering if people think it’s worth a watch in its current form

Lafari,

So it’s overly long and misuses its time. Wow.

Lafari,

Or they get fined if they can’t get to a polling booth due to disability and poor disability access, or circumstances.

Nice South Park reference! I guess you probably haven’t been penalised in any way or you’d know, so you can probably can get away with that. But isn’t it technically illegal to not cast a proper vote in Australia? (I think compulsory voting is stupid so I don’t blame you btw)

Lafari,

Follow-up question: If voting is mandatory, but you don’t want to vote for any of the parties, what are you expected to do?

Lafari,

In order words, why is voting mandatory in Australia, but not UK, US, Canada or New Zealand?

Lafari,

Isn’t that illegal? I think it’s legal in the UK though, someone told me it’s tradition to draw a big cross on the whole ballot paper and they actually count no-votes as distinct from non-votes, or something like that.

Lafari,

I think it forces a lot of idiots to just pick a box when they aren’t informed on politics at all. Probably skews the numbers a bit tbh.

Thank god for TV Tropes. The “subtitle” meaning “closed captions” or “sub-name” thing still bugs me. Am I the only one bugged by one name being used for multiple things confusingly? Like how “chips” is often used to mean either potato crisps (packet chips) or potato fries (hot chips). Why not just use different names, you know?
