In my experience people who talk about the good old days are white and male.

It was a time when they got their way 100% and everyone else could get fucked.

It is very intelligent though.

It’s not simple to come up with coherent statements on such a wide variety of tasks.

It’s not just stringing random words together like predictive text. It understands context in a way that is very complex.

It is more knowledgeable than the average person by a huge amount.

For example I asked it to write songs about squidmas, an imaginary holiday I made up to irritate my children. It was able to rewrite Christmas songs but with a squid theme. That’s way more complex than predictive text.

Given it’s an artificial intelligence it stands to reason its understanding and knowledge are artificial.

I don’t think there’s any relevance pointing that out anymore. No one thinks it’s conscious or a general AI.

I also don’t see how it’s massively different to our ability to parse and output text tbh.

The install process on windows is clicking a few buttons.

For the vast majority of users it’s a way better experience.

Seems unlikely with how they work now. You also can’t really extinguish foss.

.Net is cross platform and open source as well now.

Maybe if Linux becomes a competitor in the desktop market. But I don’t see that happening any time soon.

Again the vast vast majority of users don’t care. And that’s their target audience.

Microsoft loves open source nowadays.

People do a huge amount of their work for free.

They’re also heavily invested in Linux for the cloud. So any work done there helps them.

What are some productive things to do when you wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep for a few hours?

I’m looking for suggestions that zombie-me could follow through with. The problem is I can barely bring myself to get out of bed, let alone do a useful task. It just wastes typically 2–5 hours of my life as I wait for tiredness to finally (re)take hold.

Wearing masks isn’t really an issue. It’s standard in many countries during winter and they have much better flu numbers.

Natural immunity wears off with COVID and it mutates rapidly enough that we’ll keep needing boosters most likely.

Also the regular flu is fucking awful and we put a lot of effort every year into keeping to low.

There are plenty of people who are completely comfortable with their partners being strippers or porn stars. It’s just their work at the end of the day.

I’m sure plenty of people don’t really feel anything about it.

I use Edge at work and it’s a really decent browser. It’s not Internet Explorer it’s basically Chrome with different tracking software lol

Obviously I use Firefox personally. But it’s actually decent.

Roughly 60% of people use chrome so I’m sure there is a big cross over.

But I feel if people really cared they wouldn’t use chrome to begin with.

Time will tell.

I think they’re taking aim at people who use an adblocker because it’s simple and won’t bother if they make it harder than installing an extension.

I doubt most people use an adblocker.

Anyone who’s aware of these issues or cares about them really should have been smart enough to switch to Firefox a long time ago.
