Lmaydev,

Abuse often works this way.

Usually it’s intermittent and when they aren’t being abused they are super loving and caring.

This leads to people thinking they are doing something wrong or that the abuser is a loving partner with problems that can be worked on.

Abuse is incredibly complicated and until you’ve been through it it’s really hard to understand how anyone could put up with it.

Lmaydev,

I mean just license it as such right? You can’t say it’s completely free for anyone to use then complain you aren’t getting paid.

Lmaydev, (edited )

Tbf you’re the one getting riled up. Maybe take your own advice and also stop using random ads you can’t even name as a source.

What search engine do you recommend that isn't Google or Bing?

I’m still trying to de-Google my life, little by little. I don’t trust Bing for similar reasons. DDG is feeling shady of late. What’s the search engine you all recommend that I can inject into my daily life? Is there perhaps a search engine that is focused on code, or have we just all moved on to AI for searching?...

Lmaydev,

The only thing I can find is they allow MS trackers in their browser. Which isn’t great, but doesn’t matter if you only use their search.

Do you have a source?

Lmaydev,

That’s kind of spreading misinformation though right?

China's Uyghur Drama: Wiping Out An Entire Ethnic Minority --- [documentary in French with English subtitles, 105 min] (www.arte.tv)

Tortured in huge internment camps, forced labour and mass sterilisations: The Chinese state’s attack on the Uyghur people, an ethnic minority in western China, is akin to genocide, with an estimated one million people arbitrarily detained. An in-depth look at how Beijing has committed grave human rights offences over decades....

Lmaydev,

It’s not akin to genocide. It is textbook genocide.

Lmaydev,

My friend tried this thing where you nap for 20 minutes every 4 hours or so.

They managed to get into a good rhythm with it for a while.

They stopped because they missed sleep and it was weird as fuck being awake all the time.

They had an amazing ability to fall asleep almost instantly so I imagine that made it much easier.

Lmaydev,

Exactly why therapy is so useful.

I could never tell my family and friends part of me hated them because their love guilted me into not killing myself.

Lmaydev,

It is very intelligent though.

It’s not simple to come up with coherent statements on such a wide variety of tasks.

It’s not just stringing random words together like predictive text. It understands context in a way that is very complex.

It is more knowledgeable than the average person by a huge amount.

For example I asked it to write songs about squidmas, an imaginary holiday I made up to irritate my children. It was able to rewrite Christmas songs but with a squid theme. That’s way more complex than predictive text.

What are some productive things to do when you wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep for a few hours?

I’m looking for suggestions that zombie-me could follow through with. The problem is I can barely bring myself to get out of bed, let alone do a useful task. It just wastes typically 2–5 hours of my life as I wait for tiredness to finally (re)take hold.

Lmaydev,

Not procrastinating and not unhealthy.

Seems unlikely with how they work now. You also can’t really extinguish foss.

.Net is cross platform and open source as well now.

Maybe if Linux becomes a competitor in the desktop market. But I don’t see that happening any time soon.

Lmaydev,

The install process on windows is clicking a few buttons.

For the vast majority of users it’s a way better experience.

Lmaydev,

Microsoft loves open source nowadays.

People do a huge amount of their work for free.

They’re also heavily invested in Linux for the cloud. So any work done there helps them.

Lmaydev,

There are plenty of people who are completely comfortable with their partners being strippers or porn stars. It’s just their work at the end of the day.

I’m sure plenty of people don’t really feel anything about it.

Lmaydev,

No that’s the point. If you are not insecure and trust your partner then you know it’s just acting.

Lmaydev,

I doubt most people use an adblocker.

Anyone who’s aware of these issues or cares about them really should have been smart enough to switch to Firefox a long time ago.

Lmaydev,

I use Edge at work and it’s a really decent browser. It’s not Internet Explorer it’s basically Chrome with different tracking software lol

Obviously I use Firefox personally. But it’s actually decent.

Lmaydev,

In my experience people who talk about the good old days are white and male.

It was a time when they got their way 100% and everyone else could get fucked.

Lmaydev, (edited )

Yeah it literally pops a screen sized warning when anything tries to run as admin. Linux is very vulnerable as well. Hackers are just really good at what they do.

Lmaydev,

Sounds like docker with a load of extra steps.

Lmaydev,

Someone’s parents never taught them to share.

Obligatory fuck religion.

Lmaydev,

They’ve killed almost 1000 in Gaza now. Are you suggesting hamas shouldn’t ignore that? When does it end.

Lmaydev,

The 90s will always be 10 years ago in my brain.

Lmaydev,

Yeah this is literally the dream. What a moron.

Lmaydev,

That’s really not how genetics work. Masculinity is mostly a learned thing.

It’s so easy to blame evolution for being an idiot.
