Blame OP for not using a better quality version to start.

Next you can blame Lemmy.world for not allowing pasting from clipboard. I’m not about to download the image to my device just for this.

I also linked to the image directly.

It would have significantly improved this post to spend the very small amount of time to crop out the black sections. https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/0db11f60-623f-410c-a6cd-888c1d9be495.png

What is your unpopular flim opinion

I’ll go first. Mine is that I can’t stand the Deadpool movies. They are self aware and self referential to an obnoxious degree. It’s like being continually reminded that I am in a movie. I swear the success of that movie has directly lead to every blockbuster having to have a joke every 30 seconds

I absolutely love Star Wars, but I can admit they are pretty dumb and have terrible writing.

The venn diagram of people who play music on speakers in public and people who are a thin thread away from stabbing you is a circle.

Also, I live in the US, so the medical fees for getting stabbed is not worth the risk.

People die from alcohol abuse. A lot of people. It’s not fair to compare it. It really hurts.

The phrase “free is never free” already acknowledges that the service does not require payment (free), but it implies that you are used as a method of making money.

It’s just a phrase to keep people aware.

I can understand that thought, but I think it’s wise to first think things through on the assumption that is not the case.

Though, it sure seems that Occam’s razor points to this being the case, along with the other user’s point of rampant racism towards Arab people causing some to be primed to assume racism.

Not sure if sarcasm…

Lol I’d agree with that. I think it’s because sombreros are rarely worn and has an established history of being used with racist caricatures.

I think it’s a bit unfair to call them deranged, but I agree with the sentiment that they are vastly different.

I think this is a completely logical reasoning. I’d wager that if you had led with this explanation instead of jumping into calling people racist you would have made a better impact.

Also, this reasoning is more along the lines of “may add to racist caricatures” rather than “this is a racist caricature”. In that case it makes sense to “avoid just in case” rather than a directly racist act in itself.

If your goal is to educate people to make an actual impact, then avoiding jumping into hyperbole and attacking people directly should be your goal.

Remember to attack the argument or action, rather than the individuals.

Additionally, when someone jumps right into hyperbole and aggressive language towards people, it becomes more of a show as if the goal to be seen as righteous rather than being focused on education and making a real impact.
