Haven’t tried myself but looking at a Mac for next time. Seems to be great experience and hardware integration somewhat up to speed. GPU issue is tackled a while back. asahilinux.org macdailynews.com/…/asahi-linux-on-an-apple-m1-mac… the fedora version was launched a few months back so I assume there is a lot to do. But active development and usable

My way around the issue with the app and its collection is :

  1. Install in a separate profile with empty everything. (So they get an empty contact list)
  2. Install beeper in a different profil and connect WhatsApp to beeper.
  3. Remove all permissions from WhatsApp. There if I need to reconnect sometime.

Oh and using fake number is also a good idea. And yes not as good as selfhosting I know. Signal is an option if you can get them to switch. Telegram is crap.

www.beeper.com/faq#how-does-beeper-connect-to-enc…

So yea a bit of trust put in beeper. Matrix bridge and self host is as I said better.

This is easy. For services that’s not so good to start with , like SMS , WhatsApp etc.

For sensitive stuff i use signal with a fake number. Or other channels.

Why didn't anyone remind me the dual booting exists?

I was talking to my dad yesterday and he talked about how he dual booted windows and Linux in his college days. I immediately left to download Ubuntu, I feel so dumb for forgetting it’s an option. I literally only use windows so I can play Fortnite with friends. PSA: you can have both Linux and Windows, or you can use a vm in...

I had an old windows AME install on a separate drive I forgot about. Updated grub in peppermint (Debian) voila all of the sudden my windows was added , no fuss at all. Simple nowadays

Walking Desk Is More Annoying Than A Standing Desk (hackaday.com)

I feel like there was a missed opportunity to use some of the spare computing power on the desk to add some helpful navigational autonomy. Like using a backward facing web camera for lane assist, obstacle avoidance, route following, etc. Could leverage something open source like Autoware.org to get most of the way there....

Love it , wouldnt work where i live , no flat roads. , Would be a new extreme sport going downhill though :) but I think I am gonna go for the one in the comments perhaps hackaday.io/…/180836-desk-ercising-with-the-exer-…

Privacy benefits of Custom roms

So recently my moto G60 reached the end of life with respect to security updates. That was the reason I was using to prevent myself from switching to a custom rom(actual reason is laziness). This phone has rom support for pixel experience and lineage OS. So my questions are if pixel experience has any privacy advantages when...

Lineage does not have any special privacy features besides not having gapps. You can use Microg for a balance between privacy and convenience.

Use aurora store and don’t login with any account. You will need the lineage for microg version or root to get it working

I use GOS so built in firewall but there is also fake-VPN based ones that don’t require root.

I like that they don’t foce apps on me , I’d rather install what I need myself. F-droid is not the best app as I see it. I use neo store so do not want extra bloat.

Regarding Firefox , you are either running chrome/vanadium or chrome/vanadium plus Firefox. Since webview. So what you have with Firefox is at best the in use browser features. Open a link in an app and you still use the webview. Firefox on android has it issues as well (sandboxing) . So 1+1 = 2 issues. Using a VPN / DNS with adblock makes ublock unnecessary.

Am I running the risk of getting my Google account banned for logging into the Aurora Store or a custom rom like GrapheneOS?

I guess there is no need to introduce what a Degoogled phone is (or a custom ROM without google services, like GrapheneOS is) and the Aurora Store is basically said in a crude way the Google Playstore but without the need to log in to your Google account, quite useful in my opinion....

Regarding email you can use k9 email and set it up with your Gmail.

What can we do about major sites blocking VPN providers?

I use ProtonVPN for everything, and I’ve started noticing more and more sites simply blocking me if I try to connect to them through ProtonVPN. As much as it sucks, I’ve more or less become acclimated to having to deal with an increased number of captchas while using a VPN; but I’m pretty angry about being blocked...

Ok then let’s send better weapons to Hamas. I am sure they will be happy to precise target and hit all military installations. It’s kind of sad to see privileged people pointing out how someone else is supposed to fight the boot on their throat.
