Molten_Moron,

how green everything was

Lol, first thing I did was change my keyboard to the same green as the desktop.

Molten_Moron,

Well, judging by the fact that it gave me my favorite (and current (Mint)) distro on the first try, I’ll say this tool is pretty solid lol

Molten_Moron,

I haven’t touched dd since I read that about a year ago, super interesting!

For people that use dd because they like the progress bar, I highly recommend pv.

What would be the best way for me to recover data from my old laptop's hard drive, which seems to have a bad superblock?

I got an external hard drive enclosure for the purpose of recovering some of the files from my old laptops hard drive. The hard drive and all of it’s partitions show up in both disks and gparted but it wont mount. When I tried to mount it manually, it gave the error message stating that it can’t read the superblock. I’ve...

Molten_Moron,

As others have said, first make a full copy of the disk so you’re not working on a failing drive.

Then, I highly recommend DDRescue

Molten_Moron,

So far I’ve got Steam running flawlessly. Haven’t tried much else yet.

Molten_Moron,

I recently started using Mint after years on Debian.

I may be weird here, but it has quickly become my favorite distro.

It’s snappy and super user-friendly, plus it’s been de-Ubuntu-d. Out of the box Flatpak support is just nice to have, and Cinnamon is a sweet de.

What distro would you recommend for a 32-bit old Acer One laptop? (kbin.social)

It's an old model (Acer One D257) Processor is Intel Atom. Memory is 1GB DDR3 with 320 GB of HDD. I currently Have MX 21 running on it, but I need to reinstall because I forgot the root password. Since I'm reinstalling the OS, I thought I'd ask here for recommendations for an OS that makes the most of this oldie.

There’s also TinyCore, made by the lead developer of Damn Small Linux after it stopped being developed.

This package of bagels I bought expired on a date that doesn't exist. (i.imgur.com)

I originally posted this on the other site back when I took the picture, and it resulted in a lot of confused comments, especially from Americans, eventually getting removed by overzealous mods. Either way, I promise you that this date does not exist, and has never existed.

New to Linux, have a few questions

I currently use Windows 10 and I’d like to try out Linux. My plan is to set up a dual boot with OpenSUSE tumbleweed and KDE Plasma. I’ve read so many different opinions about choosing a distro, compatibility with gaming and Nvidia drivers, and personal issues with the ethos of different companies like Canonical. I value...

Molten_Moron,

Linux Mint works really well with Nvidia, too!

Molten_Moron,

Any suggestions for a good model? 😅

Molten_Moron,

I’m out of town until Monday, but I’ll set it up on my t100tam when I get back and see if I can get it working.

Molten_Moron,

Thus is the folly of small scale cloud computing, unfortunately.

Molten_Moron,

Sadly distrotest is gone, but distrosea.com is a semi-decent replacement. Doesn’t seem quite what you’re looking for, but may be worth a look!

Molten_Moron,

At least you get Windows and not the abomination that is MacOS.
