I am! I thought it was boring when I was a kid, so I never watched it, but I’m really digging it now. I’m starting with the original series and it kinda reminds me of “The Twilight Zone” sometimes.
I was surprised how long the episodes are, but I’m ok with that because it slows down my ability to binge. It’s like I just unlocked a metric-ton of new content to enjoy; not having to constantly search for something to watch
So yeah, I’ve been caught due to y’alls memes (of all things)… and I’m not mad at it lol
No GPS, no map Quest, no internet on cell-phone. You just got lost in the smokey mountains for hours, about to run out of gas, hoping there was an open gas station at the next exit. Just raw-dogging those road-trips for the most part
I got haggled for being a macos user in college because, “pc was superior”. Turns out, that the CompSci people that gave me shit about my Mac, didn’t understand the difference between “PC” and "Windows’. My MacBook is still the best laptop I’ve ever owned. It literally survived having beer being pulled into it’s fan, and it’s battery turned into a balloon long ago… it still runs fine, almost a decade later (if I keep it plugged in). I was “tech illiterate” to people because I used a MacBook. But switching from windows to mac, got me comfortable with trying linux. It got me comfortable with being uncomfortable, because I was constantly trying to figure out how to “get this to work on macos”
I’ve met a lot of tech-illiterate people over the years… and they all gave me less shit about trying something different.
You caught me just as I was getting ready to workout. So I tacked on 30 push-ups to the end of my 30 mins of cardio. I hope you’re happy, cause I’m exhausted
A forum should work in tandem with a chatroom in an “ideal” online community, imo. Searchable Q&A with a communication for additional, nuanced interaction. They serve different purposes and can be more powerful when used together, than they could be on their own.
Lemmy does seem to have a bunch of old, crotchety internet nerds on here that like the “old ways” of the webs. But just tell 'em to “go fuck yourself”, if they’re being a dick; and than don’t reply to them again. It’s very freeing. They’re just butt sensitive about linux and foss, cause they were bullied on early internet forums and now act the same way, when expressing their loud-ass opinions. It’s like an unfortunate cycle of abuse that has existed on forums, but don’t let it discourage you from asking anyway… the question might help others
I’m a crotchety old internet nerd… tell me to “go fuck myself”, just for funsies! It’s empowering!
I always right-clicked for the “more info” (or whatever it was) with any suspicious email. It would look like a bunch of html code that I didn’t really understand, but buried in there would be a company name that was usually obvious, like “phishtesting.com” or some bullshit.
I always had a 100% report rate, and always joked that I was waiting to get a prize for my accuracy. And obviously, also a joke to ever think I would get anything for it
My wife and I tag-team when going to home depot or Lowes. I’ll check isles, and she’ll find assistance faster than I ever can. It’s expedited our trips there significantly
