Nemo,

That why someone behaves a certain way is only important inasmuch as it determines whether they’ll keep behaving that way.

Examples:

  • Criminals don’t need to be punished but rehabilitated; because blame and guilt aren’t important; recidivism is.
  • Your lover might have all sorts of reasons they love you, and some of those may seem very romantic and some might seem as unromantic as can be. But as long as they will keep living you, that’s what’s important.
Nemo,

When did we stop spelling it hiccough, though?

Nemo,

Making sure all the kids are buckled.

Nemo,

Are there other people enforcing Rule 3 or am I just aggressive enough about it that it made such an impression?

Either way, I’m pleased.

Nemo,

I don’t go anywhere for gaming news. Anything cool in gaming will still be here in a couple years.

Nemo,

No. I prefer to not wear any watch. I dislike having something heavy strapped to my wrist.

And I dislike accidentally looking at clocks when I didn’t specifically query the clock time; it screws with my perception of the passage of time, causing unpleasant dissonance.

Also I work in food, which means washing my hands above the wrist every half hour at a minimum, and wrist jewelry gets in the way of that.

And I’ve never been mugged, partly because I aggressively look like someone not worth mugging, and strapping multiple hundreds of dollars to my wrist is counter to that.

Nemo,

If you want to stop children from dying, banning cars and sugary drinks would go a lot farther.

Nemo,

So, you agree with me in the last paragraph, but called me stupid first? Get away from that reddit mentality, friend.

Cars are not useful to society, though, they are actively harmful. They create sprawl and discourage walkability, pollute with participate as well as light and sound, and as we were discussing, are the leading cause if death for children in the US. Cars are useful only to individuals, at the expense of wider society.

What are your criteria for upvoting/downvoting?

I hate that I always compare Lemmy to Reddit, but Reddit used to have (not sure if they still do) guidelines called “Reddiquette” that included guidelines about upvoting and downvoting. I don’t remember the specifics (and sending too much of my browser traffic to Reddit makes me feel dirty) but one of the guidelines was...

Nemo,

If it contributed to the conversation, I upvote. Especially if it’s well-written and informative.

If it’s off-topic, incorrect, or repetitive, I downvote.

If it’s banal or uninteresting but not actually deleterious to discourse or distracting from the topic, I don’t vote.

I upvote almost all replies to my comments, including those disagreeing with me, unless they clearly didn’t take the time to read and understand my comment.

I vote on almost all comments I reply to, as well.

Nemo,

The Economist publishes editorials, not scientific articles, and has a well-known bias. And while you should take all the articles about economics with a grain of salt, you shouldn’t take the articles about other topics at all.

Nemo,

Ones who made videos that should’ve been text articles.

Nemo,

Lots of things. But if I notice a game becoming addictive for me, I stop playing. I know too many addicts.

What modes of transport do you really like?

For me personally, trams are right up there. Aside from the main issue of sharing the roads instead of having a dedicated line, they really make it easy to get from one part of a city to another, especially for wheelchair users. They’re usually as frequent as buses, but much faster. The stations are much more attractive...

Bike and it’s not close. I’ve loved being on my bike my whole life, ever since it was the easiest way to get to the public library as a youth. My hometown had a beloved, beautiful, and very extensive bike trail system, and in addition to my use of it for transit, my family would ride it together for fun every Sunday. At peak usage as an adult rider, my daily commute was ~27 miles. Currently it’s 9, but I do a lot of errands and shopping and recreational riding as well.

Second place is walking.

I once went outside on a foggy day and thought, wow, this render distance is terrible

Nemo,

Honestly I just want a shirt that won’t get collar rings. I have very oily skin.

Nemo,

Do they look appropriate for semiformap occasions, though?

Nemo,
  • non-slip soles
  • no heel
  • no added height
  • polishable leather uppers
  • slip-on
  • waterproof
  • available in both black and natural leather colors
  • under $70
  • last at least 18 months of daily use
  • never discontinued
Nemo,

Because microblogging is about shouting into the void and threaded fora are about conversation.

Exploring. Sprawling woods, giant mansions, stairways leading down from basements or subways. With or without chasing a mysterious figure or a mysterious figure chasing me.

Nemo,

nice username

Nemo, (edited )

I had a couple of these in the tank from an Ask muni a few weeks ago. They’re up where they belong now!

Nemo,

They / them is already in use

So is xe / xyr to a lesser degree

What does adding a third, competing pronoun set get us?
