Nemo,

Not a composer but a musician, Chris Thiel. Amazing mandolin player.

What do I put on my resume when the contract owner of my job changes?

I work as a contractor, been working here for 9 years, had the same contract company all that time… Except until recently when the contract came up for bid and the old company was outbid by another. Lucky for me, they’re keeping all the same people, positions, and whatnot. I like my job, I look forward to the change, I just...

Nemo,

I had this happen in a different industry. I put both companies on the same line, separated by a slash. The position is the more important part anyway.

Nemo,

It’s a portable game system that also acts as a web browser, ebook reader, MP3 player, digital camera, and instant messenging platform.

On the downside, they also receive voice calls.

Nemo,

It’s so funny. Bandit is the best. I haven’t dentified with a cartoon dog so strongly since Mr. Peanutbutter.

Nemo,

A lot of us are more worried about making wrong choices than we should be.

Nemo,

My mantra is just rama rama rama. Meditation with a mantra helps a lot of you put in the work beforehand.

It sounds like you’re talking more about a motivational slogan, though. Mine is, “You don’t have to want it, you just have to do it.” It helps because it frees me from the tyranny of desire. I don’t need to figure out if I’m in the mood. I don’t need to trick myself into enjoying it. I can just do the thing and be done with it.

Relatedly, there’s a line from a favorite book, “Somebody has to and no one else will” with a similar vibe.

Gamers who have gamed for a long time

do you find it difficult to get into games? I’ve got Epic Games and Steam Games libraries chock-full of classic top-tier games along with many other newer games like Stray or 2077, and a bunch of indie titles. I just can’t be bothered to download and install them, much less try to get into the characters and storylines. Used...

Nemo,

Not at all, but I don’t buy many games. I try to play demos before purchasing the game, if possible.

Nemo,

Brutality architecture, done well, already looks amazing!

That said, yes, their tendency towards large unbroken planes of material make them prime candidates for murals, and you see a lot of that in places like Chicago that had a big Brutalist phase.

Unable to access a certain community

I’m getting an error when trying to access the PC master race community on lemmy.world “couldnt_find_community”. I can’t even read my own comments on there. Strange, considering as far as I know we haven’t defederated from .world. Anybody know how I can fix this or should I message the admins?

Nemo,

Look, Holocaust jokes as a one-off, whatever. Holocaust jokes as a running gag? Bad look.

Nemo,

Perfect time to rename the community, why didn’t that happen?

Like, seriously.

Nemo,

Credit was always money, it was just other people’s money.

Nemo,

Tip on counter service, don’t tip on retail purchases. This was a retail purchase. If you had gotten a latte you should’ve tipped a dollar for that, but not on the entire total.

You’re probably not going to hell because hell probably doesn’t exist. However, whether you are cast into the outer darkness, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth, that’s another matter and I suggest truly repenting for your misdeeds… of which this was not one, to be clear.

Nemo,

Astral Aves sort of stopped updating a while back, but what there is of it is absolutely amazing.

Why wasn't NYC's Central Park concept copied by other cities?

I’m talking about a massive park in the absolute heart of the city. Located such that is naturally surrounded by city high rises. *People are giving examples of parks that are way off in the boonies. I’m trying to say located centrally, heart of the city, you know where the high rises are. Yes I understand nyc has more, the...

Nemo,

Chicago, too, plus the Emerald Necklace of parks and greenways ringing the city.

Why does "hide read posts" apply to my own submitted posts?

It’s strange and unintuitive that my own submitted posts are hidden with this basic feature. Given the slow pace on some communities as Lemmy grows, it gets really repetitive without the ability to filter out read posts. On the other side though, the ability to review my posts and check back on them seems pretty basic as a...

Nemo,

Don’t you get reply notifications? I get reply notifications.

I also don’t check “hide read”, though, so we’re clearly using the platform differently.

Nemo,

Are you submitting posts without reading them first? If not, what’s the issue?

At what point is violence on a large scale justified?

I know this is a really vague question, but it’s been on my mind A LOT lately. I’m specifically asking about people fighting on behalf of a group that is subject to oppression of some kind. 3 years ago, with all of the protests in America that included violence majorly against property and minorly against people but were...

Nemo,

When widespread violence is already in play, then the use of widespread violence in opposition is justified. It’s not always the right move, though.

Edit to add that, looking at history, those advocating for large-scale violence in pursuit of a righteous cause are typically more interested in the violence than the cause.

Nemo,

Not all work is paid!

But no, not all paid work is prostitution. Only when something personal is used for commercial ends does it become even figurative prostitution.

And literal prostitution is even narrower, narrow enough that it doesn’t include all sex work. That’s right, not even all sex work is prostitution.
