it’s just that the only one that survived long enough to survive to the present day is the really good advice
Okay but... I thought that was basically the point, in that if the advice survived for that long, then it is worth paying attention to at least, to consider if it might apply to a particular situation? e.g. chicken soup really is good for a cold, whether we knew the precise reasons why or not.
Too many people treat drinking like it's some kind of contest imho - like, if you don't enjoy the flavor, then why drink it, and if you do, then why ... ah... quaff it?
I’ve been reading Mastering Regular Expressions by Jeffrey E.F. Friedl, and since nobody in my life (aside from my wife) cares, I thought I’d share something I’m pretty proud of. My first set of regular expressions, that I wrote myself to manipulate the text I’m working with....
First and most especially the single most important factor: b/c I thought it sounded cool. 😎
Second, I googled "what does Zaddy mean" - oh wait that was earlier in the day, cough, I mean I googled "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", found that it was first aired in 1939, and so put that.
I would love to see where it would go forward from there, but our puny human minds surely could not handle the Eldritch strangeness that would entail... (or rather, we could only do it once, then go insane forever afterwards - sign me up!:-P)
I thought some of the older ones, like 2000, were more secure, with ability to access on-chip security features. So ofc they threw all that out in favor of 10, the final OS that would come as a subscription service, meaning that you'd never need to buy one again. And then they threw that out too, in favor of the next one... and on and on it goes:-P.
Computers mostly don't force software updates on you, unless you tell them to. (Caveat: IT routinely forces updates on people.) Find the setting where you specifically asked the machine to keep itself updated, and turn it off. If you can't find it, throw the machine away and get a better one where you can be in control:-P. This concludes my sermon for today, I hope you all have some Happy Holidays!:-P
