If you have any books you’ve been putting off on reading, nows the time to start.

I honestly don’t need to RIS much but I’ve anecdotally heard good things about Yandex Image Search. Specifically for… ahem sensitive searches

I don’t know if you’re being serious or not but modern socialism pretty much began with the Nazis.

Honestly? The abolition of democracy/representative government.

Jason X is an absolute gem and blows the roof off anything that came after Part V. Also worth mentioning that Friday the 13th (2009) is an amazing movie in its own right and one of the best slashers of the 2000s imo

I do, and it’s not for entirely altruistic reasons either.

When I’d open a thread on reddit, if I wasn’t there within the first hour of being up or first dozen or so comments, it was almost guaranteed that whatever I said would get buried and the effort I spent formulating my comment would basically be wasted. So there was very little incentive to engage with meaningful discussion just for the sake of discussion. On Lemmy, most posts struggle to get over a hundred comments at most, and even more struggle to get past ten. So, if I spend time developing my reply, I have a higher chance of that comment getting seen and other people in the community engaging with me, which is the entire point of leaving comments, IMO.

I was listening to this like an hour ago! Me and my partner are going as Greg and Wirt for Halloween this year

No, most well-adjusted people would not identify that sentence as racist. While it’s true that the sentence does involve race, racism is understood in society as something that involved prejudice or hate. None of that exists in the sentence “I’m white” within this context

I think it’s trying to use the word “fit” as an “epileptic fit.” As in, “he doesn’t fit” in his clothes" = he doesn’t have epileptic fits when wearing these clothes. I could be off the mark completely but that’s the only explanation I can think of

This isn’t necessarily what you want to hear but why are you getting a Chromebook? I’m assuming it’s required for your school, in which case I’d get the cheapest one you can live with

Pretty much any Joanna Newsom lyric could qualify but this line,

“Scrape your knee it is only skin.”

Goosebumps every time. It’s such a cathartic lyric that the song has been building to for almost 12 minutes.

Funny, I was just watching some lockdown-era Tested videos and was wondering what that tattoo was on Adam’s arm. Reminds me of my mechanic friends with a 10mm socket tattooed so that “they’ll never lose it”

Depends on your lifestyle ofc but a cheap 6’ tape measurer keychain has come in clutch more times than I can count. Within the past week I’ve used it to

measure the hatch of my car to see if a box could fit

compared a 14" pizza to a 17" to my friend group to figure what size pizza to buy

measured an entire house worth of soffit

The thing was like $5 and honestly gets more use out of anything in my EDC except maybe my earbuds and even then I barely touch them since graduating from uni

Nobody ITT is saying that the dislike button doesn’t work though

Fellow Extreme Weather Lemmings, what are your Buy it for Life winter boot suggestions?

We got my husband some Helly Hansen boots the year before last and we noticed a hole in them last year. I am right pissed. If I’m dropping hundreds of dollars on boots, I expect to get my money’s worth. What are your awesome boot suggestions to help me do just that?

Extreme weather? Find a pair of legit US military “Mickey mouse” boots. I’ve worn them in 8hr shifts at -20° F and never felt cold.

Just know that they’re not work boots. If your husband need something steel toe or with a special sole, these won’t work. They’re also ugly as sin. But for pure cold weather protection, they’re the best I’ve ever worn by far.

Edit: you may be able to find them cheaper but here’s what I’m talking about

Coleman’s U.S. G.I. Extreme Cold Temperature Boots, Unissued
