Some would say 1935, with the invasion of Ethiopia. There’s also a large body of historians who view WW1 and WW2 as being a single event. To sort of piggy-back off my above reply, the idea that WW2 “began” in 1939 is as Anglocentric as Americans thinking it started in 1941.

You don’t know the half of the toolbox dick-measring contest that goes on at jobsites.

I think a good driving song should be light, energetic, happy, and remind me of summer. It’s way too hard to pick just one track but any song off the album Love it Love it by Nana Grizol is always a good one.

Architecture. It’s something that has always fascinated me but I’ve never committed any real study hours to it

Please show me one (1) report from the last twenty years that doesn’t put Toyota/Lexus in the top for reliability or maintenance costs

My guess for a lot would be social, herd mentality. That

And ergot.

More of an An Idiot Abroad fan myself, but good pick

For pure longevity I’d recommend Iron Hearts. I’ve had the same pair of 634S for about two years, worn 2-4x per week in construction

This is not specific at all to the U.S. and the overwhelming majority of rational adults should be able to see that it’s a good thing for society to be able to legally remove members who pose a clear risk to the safety and function of it. Whether or not the 13th Amendment is administered fairly is a different conversation^1, but the false equivalency this post makes between legal imprisonment and chattel slavery is a fallacy.

^1 It’s not.

Unsure of your question about DoubleDouble but thanks for introducing a new service to me! Have you checked Soulseek for the album?

We need to normalize the idea that “goodnight” =/= " I’m going to sleep now."

I like to read for an hour or two before bed and try to avoid blue light before sleep so I usually tell my partner/friends goodnight around 8pm or 9pm. It took my current girlfriend a while to realize that me saying goodnight meant “I’m going to put my phone down until the morning so we won’t be able to talk anymore tonight,” and not, “it’s time for me to sleep.” People are always confused when I say it.

Ditto. My only hangup comes from how hard it is to find a 5G feature phone that works with US carriers.

It may be stupid, but I promise that there’s a clear “answer” to this meme that came to me in a Diphenhydraminic delirium. The relationship takes advantage of phonetics and retroactive meaning, instead of visual similarities (or in this case, differences).

Privacy is not just an illusion; it’s a delusion

Privacy is not just an illusion; it’s a delusion. Things like privacy statements and permission to use cookies are little more than sophisticated propaganda. If you think for a moment the Overlords cannot prepare a dossier on you within minutes that would make your mother faint and your father die of shame, you’re living in...

I definitely prefer their Top Gear content but I love seeing the Trio get a shout out in a thread like this

I don’t even know what this meme is trying to say

Fellow Extreme Weather Lemmings, what are your Buy it for Life winter boot suggestions?

We got my husband some Helly Hansen boots the year before last and we noticed a hole in them last year. I am right pissed. If I’m dropping hundreds of dollars on boots, I expect to get my money’s worth. What are your awesome boot suggestions to help me do just that?

Absolutely, they’re not winning any beauty contests, but as someone who works outdoors year round, they’re hands down the warmest boots I’ve ever worn. I believe there’s a V.2 model that’s rated for even colder temperatures but I’ve never tried them

Edit: I believe These are the newer models rated for -60°F

PP_BOY_,
@PP_BOY_@lemmy.world avatar

Extreme weather? Find a pair of legit US military “Mickey mouse” boots. I’ve worn them in 8hr shifts at -20° F and never felt cold.

Just know that they’re not work boots. If your husband need something steel toe or with a special sole, these won’t work. They’re also ugly as sin. But for pure cold weather protection, they’re the best I’ve ever worn by far.

Edit: you may be able to find them cheaper but here’s what I’m talking about

Coleman’s U.S. G.I. Extreme Cold Temperature Boots, Unissued
