I had a little girlfriend when we were in first grade. lol I don't recall anyone ever asking me if I had a girlfriend or anything, and I had plenty of friends that were girls and no one ever teased me about it that I remember. I knew it was okay to be friends with girls, I just had a crush on this one. We played Zelda together and talked on the phone for hours about whatever dumb things first graders talk about, then her family moved to another state. It was my most successful relationship to date. 😂

Does the "Redirector" add-on affect your browser fingerprint in any way? (kbin.social)

I use it in my normal Firefox setup, but I've been playing with Mullvad browser and I've kept everything to the defaults so I have a good option when I want a little more anonymity without needing the nuclear option (Tor) for sensitive-ish-but-really-not-all-that-sensitive browsing....

What is good to eat when you have no appetite?

I am super sick right now and haven’t eaten much in a few days. It’s getting to the point where I am gonna need to force myself to eat something to keep my strength up but everything just sounds terrible to me right now. I have been subsisting mostly on small glasses of milk and the occasional packet of instant oatmeal....

Chicken soup, plain white rice, buttered toast, peanut butter, and crackers are all things I can usually tolerate when I feel that way. Sometimes banana or vanilla yogurt. I hope you feel better soon!

DraStic is amazing on midrange devices. Compatibility is excellent in my experience, there's a lot of UI customization available, and there are some nice filter and scaling options built-in. It also has full controller support.

I get the impression that many Gen Zers like to know where everyone is all the time. It's totally normal for them to have each other's GPS locations. Snapchat has a built-in map feature where you can watch your friends move around in real time, and there are other apps that offer this, too. I was blown away when I learned this was so commonly used and people just leave it on, so their social group just knows precisely where they are all the time.

This. We as a community can do our part to downvote bad info (at least on kbin, idk if Lemmy has downvoting or not) and commenting to let people know what's up--but that will only go so far and we're not gonna catch everything. We can also report harmful misinformation that we see, but all the same, plenty of users will still receive and buy into it before it's dealt with. We need well-moderated communities for a reasonable level of peace of mind.

I love most names. I know that sounds stupid, but I have a weird fascination with names. I love meeting people with names I haven't heard before, it makes me really happy. I also love to introduce my friends to people with fake names, like I might introduce two people to each other as Telemachus Entwhistle and Victoria Saint Watercress, then walk away and let them figure out their real names. Sometimes I use people's full names in fake anger, but make up a middle name, like Aloysius or Jezebel, or make up a name that their already full first name might be short for.

One of my favorite jokes in all of TV is the running gag on Psych where the main character introduces his friend and partner, Gus, by a different name in every episode, like Lavender Gumes or Galileo Humpkins.I really don't know why I find it so amusing, but I love it.

I think some of my actual favorite names, like ones I might really name a kid, would be like Ruth, Miles, Olivia, Matthew, James, Joe, Sorrel, Elan, Evan, Lyric, Bear, Atticus, and Cynthia.

I know you didn't mean it this way, but the implication that there are "breeds" of people can be very offensive, as it compares someone's lineage to domesticated animals. Racists have long used the term "breed" to describe disenfranchised minority groups in an intentionally derogatory manner. Culture and heritage are baked into our identities, and they are very dear to many people's hearts and vital to our sense of self, which is why you're getting the responses that you are.

It's also not scientifically accurate, because breeds are bred. They are not naturally occurring variations in a species, they are bred for a purpose, by humans, through artificial selection. It's why there are breeds of dogs, cats, and horses, but we don't normally use that word for starfish or rhinos.

Humans don't have breeds because we are not bred with intention in the way that dogs are. We are products of our environment, our culture, and our history. Race is a construct, and the closest thing we have is ethnicity, which is essentially just our ancestry's geographical origins.

Besides the obvious ones:

  • "Hell" - Streetlight Manifesto
  • "Wolf Like Me" - TV on the Radio
  • "Anybody Else" - Dom Fera

Also, a bunch of songs by Bear Ghost! "Haunt, The Cartoon Heart," "Necromancin Dancin," "Rivers is a Vampire," and others.

Rogue One was the first time I feel like we got to see Vader as properly terrifying. That was my favorite appearance of his until Jedi: Fall Order came out, and omfg he is even scarier in that one. I love scary Vader.

Kenobi was hit and miss. There were moments like when he had Kenobi backed into a corner, then Kenobi lit a fire between them and escaped, like Vader couldn't deal with that? I feel like he would have like parted the flames or tried to pull Kenobi into them or something. He just let him go, but then we see him indiscriminantly killing people in the streets and it's like, "okay, there he is."
