I want that family plan but 6 users isn’t enough and I don’t see any other suitable plans on their site.

I run my own domain (currently with Google Workspace) for 10 family members. Want to leave Google but no provider has options in that size except business pricing.

It can’t be the TLD that makes your address not work on the last 1% of sites. ‘.is’ is just Iceland, nothing particular about that would make sites reject an address.

Now what might really cook your noodle is the info that the developers of the Lemmy software are pro-Russian genocide deniers, and there's a growing sentiment to not support that by dropping Lemmy in favor of kbin or something else.

Here's the best sourced info I found on the genocide topic: https://kbin.social/m/lemmyworld@lemmy.world/t/47012/-/comment/196579

Just as I was starting to get the hang of this, it feels like I stepped into another wasp nest.

Ookay, then let's look at kbin, right? Well, there's literally only ONE developer and the current version still very much a (good) beta version. So, not kbin either, then?

What's left? Beehaw, who act like snowflakes and have disconnected from where growth and interesting stuff is happening?

I feel pretty lost in the sea of the fediverse right now. Go back to Reddit? Naw, not right either.

The measure of a man’s true character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

How to make subscribed feed more diversed?

Hi guys, I’m on lemmy since the reddit api announcement and am subscribed to tens of communities. When I’m setting my feed to watch topics only from Subscribed communities (hot/active), I see a lot of topics from the same communities, like 10 topics in a row from 1 community then 3 from a different one and again from the...

  1. I consume my Subscribed feed first.
  2. When I have seen enough there but still want more, I go to the All feed.
  3. With good luck, I find new communities and subscribe to those. That improves my Subscribed feed, see step 1.
  4. with bad luck, I find a lot of crap in the All feed. When I notice recurring annoying communities, I go to their sidebar and block them. That improves my All feed, see step 2.

I have found it useful, even healthy in stressfulness work situations, to allow myself the distraction - but only for a little while. This works fairly well for me.

Do one other thing. Play only one round of Minesweeper (yes, that’s me). Read only one thing on Lemmy. Pick one of those. Then get back to work. For a while, anyway.

I… needed to read that a second time. Yes.

Gridfinity.

I’m new to 3D printing but Gridfinity is a game changer. Make your own storage, but this is made to fit into a standard grid, incredibly flexible and useful.

Non-root user that (suddenly) has elevated privileges in a specific command (only). [Have I been hacked?]

Title. Long, short story: creating or editing files with nano as my non-root user gives (the file) elevated privileges, like I have ran it w/ sudo or as root. And the (only) “security hole” that I can think of is a nextdns docker container running as root. That aside, its very “overkill” security-wise (cap_drop=ALL,...

Could I set that for Docker? I often forget to run docker-compose as sudo and it can’t be used without sudo, so it’s a bit silly to always have to prepend sudo there. This magical “s” you describe could solve that.

And, of course, because I want to learn: why is this a really bad idea?

YNAB = you need a budget

YNAB is a web app and mobile app. It’s beauty is that it helps you look FORWARD, instead of tracking your PAST spending.

It’s not much use to see that you spent too much last month, again. Instead, YNAB helps you know what your average expenses are and lets you set aside meaningful amounts for each kind of expense = that’s what we call a BUDGET.

Yes, it has a cost. Yes, it’s ironic to spend money on a tool to save money. But here’s the thing: it really works! For me, it’s easily worth the cost.

Is there any plugin or way to block forced registration

I have long been tired of the fact that I can not normally use 90% of sites without registration. I’m not going to create an account in order to read a post that interests me right now. But today was the last straw. Fucking Tumblr makes me create an account just to find and read 1 POST. (Sorry for mistakes, I am non English...

I don’t think you can get around that. What I do is that if the site requires a registration, or has a full-screen cookie banner, then I just close that tab. End of story.

If I can’t view it easily, then I will just not view it.

Depressed. I could have had so much sex, with people who cared for me.

Action cam recommendations? (Europe)

I am looking for an action cam. It does not need to be a GoPro or DJI simply because they are so very expensive – but finding alternatives is difficult, mostly because all those products are misrepresented on sites like Amazon. Some reviews reveal that the manufacturer offers free add-ons to customers who post 5-star reviews....
