I've been thinking about getting a hardware security key and have heard of yubikey before; but I want to see what my options are and if they are worth it in your opinion.
My current setup is a local KeePassXC database (that I sync between my PC and phone and also acts as TOTP authenticator app), I know that KeePass supports hardware keys for unlocking the database.
I am personally still of the belief that passwords are the safest when done right; but 2FA/MFA can greatly increase security on top of that (again, if done right).
The key work work together with already existing passwords, not replace them.
As I use linux as my primary OS I do expect it to support it and anything that doesn't I will have to pass on.
PS: what are the things I need to know about these hardware keys that's not being talked about too much, I am very much delving into new territory and want to make sure I'm properly educated before I delve in.
I use a yubikey (couldn’t chose, it’s from work) and I have no issues with it working out of the box (endevour os). I just touch the “button” and it “types” the key.
Mine is Strawberry since it has a ton of options and plays a ton of formats. It’s also (distant) fork of Amarok 1.4 and integrates well with KDE Plasma. I’m curious what other people are using these days. What’s your favorite player?
Hello everyone! I’ve been playing around with Wayland for a bit and was hoping to start learning some more about it. For example, I would be interested in making a lock screen, similar to Swaylock, as a toy project....
So I’ve been wanting to try to move to linux for the past few months but have been waiting to be done school, so I could the MS office suite behind me. I’m mostly writing this to share my experience for people who are considering switching....
If you are in the fedora mood, try nobara os. It’s fedora but with a spin on gaming, patches and some gui tools also. You can also try an inmutable distro like bazzite, which is also fedora and also focused on gaming. My advise would be to try a couple of things now that your system is clean and stick with whatever you like best.
Sorry if this community isn’t the right place to ask — I got a USB webcam that works great in Teams, but lags tremendously (3-4 seconds) in Zoom. I doubt the Zoom app is introducing that lag on its own, but how would I troubleshoot this?...
Hello everyone, I need help choosing my first distro. I want to be able to run Audio software for editing and mixing. So I need also VST plug ins and others. Currently I use Windows 10, and Reaper....
I don’t think an audio distro is needed nowadays. I use endevour os, with a zen kernel or real time one (trivial to set up, just install one package) and used this tool to fine tune the setup codeberg.org/rtcqs/rtcqsThen it’s pipewire, reaper, yabridge and not much else.
I’m between distros and looking for a new daily driver for my laptop. What are people daily driving these days? Are there any new cool things to try?...
I just upgraded my nvidia driver and kernel on tumbleweed and now my main monitor can’t go to 240hz without losing input. Am I the only one? It works fine on 60 and could work perfectly on 240hz before the update
The 545 drivers are very buggy, at least for me. I downgraded to 535,hopefully we get an usable 545 soon. Also, if you feel like it you can report the issue in the nvidia forums, it might get some visibility there.
The world of music production is dominated by Apple with Windows running a distant second. Thanks to DAWs like Reaper and open source plung-ins constantly being developed, music production on Linux doesn’t seem like such a crazy idea anymore.
All my windows vst work great and with pretty much no configuration with yabridge. I think some heavy drm’ed vsts are a bit more problematic but most (all in my case) work.
Hi! You may be sick of these posts by now, but I have been having a very hard time selecting between three distros; that being OpenSUSE, Fedora, and Linux Mint. I have tried linux in the past, I did debian with cinnamon and ran into some issues, so I ended up sheepishly reinstalling windows and getting AME10. I want to give it...
Give nobara a try. It’s fedora with focus on gaming. Mint is always a good option. Personally I use endeavour os, pretty straight forward to install but maybe a bit too barebones if you don’t know what you need yet.
What's your favorite music player on Linux? (lemmy.ml)

Experience with KDE on Fedora?
Hello all, I’ve been distro hopping a lot lately and have a long term goal of settling on one distro for the family laptops....
