I really like to post OC edits, but there seems to be absolutely no great solution. I don’t have the storage space or good internet to self-host PeerTube, catbox.moe seems to be hit or miss, uploading huge video files to an instance is just rude, and YouTube tries to deny the privacy of the viewer and uploader at every turn....
I’ve seen in various threads that the current browser engines aren’t good, such as gecko and blink. The question is why? Why do we need a new one, and what’s stopping a new one being made? Is it just the fact that they’re a lot of work to make?
Try resizing your browser window. Youll notice that the content reflows very slowly, and that youll often see giant ugly black bars. This is a pretty bad user experience for people who resize their windows often. That alone is not enough to warrant a rewrite of anything though, so thats why it hasn’t been fixed yet.
honestly it’s guilded, but before the enshittification of discord mobile discord wasn’t far off and also it’s easier to get mod in guilded, though matrix being federated is interesting. and revolt i really haven’t tried but i have a account there
I do this all the time when working with transformations (in personal projects). I know I need to take into account these 5 variables but I’m not sure exactly how they all fit together, and I really don’t want to get a pen and paper out, so I just shuffle things and their operators about until it works or I get bored and do something else.
Many laptops are made with the US ANSI layout and other layouts like UK ISO are either shoehorned in at the final design stage or relegated to shuffling symbols around and requiring both Fn+Shift to type a character that used to have its own damn key. I’m not salty.
Speed and efficiency. Why waste time downloading ad content just for it to be hidden by the browser when you can simply stop them from being downloaded in the first place?
I initially rejected this idea with a reason like “You seem to forget how vile certain parts of the internet can be,” but the more I think about it the more I agree, given a few conditions. Namely that children should not be allowed access.
Forbidding children access to the internet would solve many problems, such as social media addiction (potentially leading to depression), the spreading of misinformation, and the general amount of child exploitation online. I don’t deny that such an action may introduce other issues that I have yet to consider, but I still feel that the main points are very compelling.
I am also aware that such a system is not perfect and that people will undoubtedly circumvent it, but a much larger number of people will not (if it is made difficult to do so). Unfortunately, the only conceivable way to do such a thing is some kind of age-verification system, which I am against for various privacy-related reasons.
EDIT: Let’s cool it with the downvotes, dudes. We’re not out to cut funding to your black hole detection chamber or revoke the degrees of chiropractors just because a couple of us don’t believe in it, okay? So there is this app claiming on-device iMessage functionality on Android. Seems cool but only has subscription based pricing. Does anyone know of a way to circumvent this?...
Most of these make sense but the Applebee’s one isn’t really on your shitlist. From what you’ve said you just seem indifferent to it, much like you’d be indifferent to any other store you have no interest in.
Earlier today I read about someone who had their withdrawal processed before their deposit, placing their account into the red for a miniscule amount of times but still incurring the $35 overdraft fee.
Im curious as I usually use the site very occasionally to get certain electronic parts or order from PCBway like I just picked up some cheap but infinitely better than stock gps antennas for my LoRa T beams and im about to get a set of also still cheap but much better than stock 915mhz antennas but i kinda wanna throw some other...
I’ve heard many people rave about the Moondrop Chu’s. Even Crinacle likes them! Also I’ve ordered myself a pair for ~£15 as an early Christmas present :)
They could have easily crammed the Steam Deck full of stuff to make it hard to use for piracy - locking down everything, making it usable only to play games you legitimately own, force you to go through who knows what hoops in order to play games on it. That’s what Nintendo or Apple or most other companies do....
Valve is currently a private company, which is likely why they’ve been able to avoid enshittification for so long. All we can do is hope that whoever eventually takes over when Gabe steps down also has his ideals at heart.
I found someone in our user database with the name “Deekshita Anusri”. I then imagined the poor soul at the border who had to read that name in front of the person named so....
I heard about a guy who got a custom license plate of “NULL” and he ended up getting assigned a ton of parking/speeding tickets for every case where the ANPR system failed to read the plates.
Thai yellow curry. It BANGS. I’ll always forget when our family next orders Thai, and one particular person will always get yellow curry, and I always think “I remember thinking that was okay” and so I try a bit of theirs and it always tastes 10x better than I remembered it. Amazing every time.
Ah I see. I don’t think there’s a way to do that yet.
If you’re so inclined, perhaps you could contribute to the discussion (or development) around tags on Lemmy here, since a feature like that would solve your issue.

Ok, I admit, I’ve been lazy and kept using liftoff until the last moment, but that is coming soon with lemmy.world moving to 0.19.x soon....
What's the issue with current browser engines?

I feel like the Steam Deck is the best proof of Gabe Newell's quote that "piracy is a service issue."
