The first time, I was 7 and it snowed overnight in Florida (a little). I saw it and ran in to wake my mom up but she kept saying “it’s frost, go back to bed”. She also made me go to school and the only other kids in my class were 2 kids from Michigan.
I was 20 when I first saw snow falling from the sky. Was in England, looked out the window and panicked because I thought there was ash falling from the sky. Asked what was burning and my boyfriend (Scottish) said “That’s snooo, lass”.
This has been true around here since I was in high school (or that’s when I noticed) but once you get as old as I am now it’s different, only the people who took care of themselves look good and the distribution is more equal. So I don’t think guys are putting zero effort in, maybe as regards style but they must be maintaining their bodies at about the same rate, exercise and diet wise.
This one. 2014 Honda Accord with manual transmission. I love this car, and want it to last forever.
Second favorite was a Chevy Geo Prism, also manual (I kinda hate automatic transmission) that got the best gas mileage of any car I have owned before or since. Overhead cam, perfect engine design. Body fell apart, but that engine would not stop and was so efficient.
If you don’t have hard water, maybe. Not here. Soap scum on the tub, soap doesn’t remove dirt, just sort of locks it on. Which does not matter as much on skin but is disastrous for hair. I have known a couple people who had to cut their hair off after trying to wash it with soap.
If I was to the point where I could only afford one, I’d get shampoo. If that was impossible for awhile, water only is the way I would go. It works ok, most stuff rinses off.
I’ll start off by saying that he has a bad past life. He was obviously abused by his previous owners and straight up abandoned in the woods. He has bad anxiety that he is on Prozac for, and it seems to be helping for the most part....
Ah. There is no punishment built in here, unless you consider removing attention to be punishment. It’s positive reinforcement when they do something right, the happy words and pets. Ignoring them sometimes to convince them you are ok and so are they, not reassuring them. Odd, sure, but not at all mean. They don’t seem ruined, I probably just am not explaining it right. Certainly not kicking them, what the heck?
Barking is an overstatement, lol. But a rough noise to get their attention, a soft and high pitched word for praise and plenty of cuddling just on my terms, not when working at home.
It’s certainly working, can’t argue with results. Both dogs are calmer and behaving better, easier to train now. Not as reactive.
No, I do understand what you mean and it’s the same thing I like about the baroque music. It’s almost like modern house music, the kind where they take one riff and play it out fifty different ways, it is sort of trancey and doesn’t yell at you for attention, it pulls instead of pushing.
I know there are a lot of fad diets and then there is calorie counting as a more science based approach. I myself do calorie counting and follow a strict diet in order to avoid overeating. How do you eat all day, you follow a system?
Well, in terms of weight control I gamed the system by staying underweight when young (often very unhealthily and anxiously so) so that middle age weight gain got me to a healthy weight.
I can’t diet because of the early eating disorder, and can’t quite get to intuitive eating either. So as someone else mentioned, I do limit the hours I eat not what or how much.
Lots of beans and rice. Love cheese too. Meat & fruit every week but not every day. Grow some vegetables every season but not enough to rely on; but in fall & spring have fresh greens from the yard, and whatever else I can manage. Make sourdough bread each week. Junk food of choice is chips (both crisps and fries).
Would say a typical day is coffee around 10, a lunch of sandwich or leftovers around noon, a coffee at 1600, a supper around 20:00 because I cook after work and it’s hard to have it earlier. Supper of beans and rice and greens, or meat and rice and greens, or pasta or stir fry, but something creative at least a couple times a week (tonight was poblanos stuffed with black beans, greens, and cheese on a tomato/chipotle sauce). Supper the main meal, not my ideal but most important meal with family. On weekends a late brunch or lunch and meal at teatime only.
If I could have only one sort of meal forever? Beans, rice, and greens.
Mine is people who separate words when they write. I’m Norwegian, and we can string together words indefinetly to make a new word. The never ending word may not make any sense, but it is gramatically correct...
My ex was a chill stoner who got radicalized on the internet and became an abusive alcoholic raging racist, then got sober but is still an angry right wing asshole.
I was selfish/self-centered as fuck as a teenager and gained patience and perspective over time, I think most people do change in that way, become more aware of others, nicer. Not everyone, obviously. But most.
Do you have a story about when you saw snow for the first time? (kbin.social)
Care to share it with us?

Out of all the cars you've owned, which one holds a special place in your heart as the absolute favourite.
Shamelessly stolen from /r/askreddit.
What are your "poor person" money life hacks?
Let’s get a list going. Like with a Target debit card you can get $40 cash back and it takes 1 to 2 days to be withdraw from your checking.
My beagle has suddenly started resource guarding random stuff. What should I do to get this behavior to stop?

Dear Lemmings, what is your personal approach to human diet? (lemmy.world)

Is it actually possible to change your personality
This isn’t meant to be a negative post. I wanted to tweak how I handle some things and have gotten better but I it made me think....
What piece of song lyric you can really relate to?
I’m not talking about the full lyrics, but just a phrase or a sentence that you feel is right up your alley....
