Having worked for the MTA on the subway system years back, I invite you all to remember that we built one of the very first subway systems in the world, definitely first in scale, knowing we’d make mistakes in implementation, along with a lot of successful ideas.

Everyone else learns from our mistakes, we gladly hosted the engineering team from Los Angeles and Bangkok when they wanted to share notes with us.

With almost 200miles/320km of public tracks, this is easily the most successful mass transit system internationally. "BuT gWaFiTi BaD :( "

Give it a rest, posers.

Hi friend, please reread and note the caveat, “one of the very first”, which position number 5 certainly includes.

Also, a bit childish to want to rank systems based on creation date. If you feel like “losing”, please read on:

  • NYC total system length is about 800 miles (1.1km)
  • yearly ridership: 1.8bn rides
  • If we count the el’s (elevated rapid transit, which is still running), first ride was in iirc 1868.

But look, the important thing is that both our countries (presuming you live in the UK) have nice mass transit systems to keep cars off the roads. I look forward to visiting your country and riding its underground system at some point.

Most people wouldn’t respond to the question, “who was here first?” with “how much time has passed since you got here?”. Right?

I understand what you’re saying, and I don’t agree. We’ll just leave it there 😎

No,I just had to deal with this myself. Most you can do is share your entire desktop in Wayland, and it’s shaky. For the first time, I had to switch to Xorg and bingo, zoom works. Fonts are actually antialiased and kerned properly for certain applications that weren’t… Really surprising.

No shit, numbnuts. None of us are getting our fair share.

You can rescue some as I have. Birds are very unique and fun, but fragile and want as much love as they give (which is a lot).

I have two conures, one was “too loud” and ignored in the corner of their garage for a few years until he started pulling out all his feathers and chewing off one of his toes, at which point he was donated.

It took about a month to get him to trust me. He will not stop attacking his own feathers, but now does so in a relaxed, quiet way while on my shoulders. He loves to just hang out with me while I’m doing some design work or programming, calling from the open door of his cage in a certain way when he wants to shoulder surf. He’s afraid of everyone else, but I know him, his body language tells me that he likes being around me.

They are a unique gift in terms of a life form. I wouldn’t buy one. Go for a rescue, try to sense their personalities as you talk to them.

What are your best air fryer/oven recipes?

My parents got me one of them fancy countertop air fryer/oven things and idk what to cook first when I get it set up. According to the box, it does everything a normal oven does as well as air fries. It can hold two whole chickens or 1 frozen pizza. It came with a rack for things like toast and a baking sheet. I also have a...

I like making vegetarian stir-fried chicken:

I use yakisoba from the grocery store, toss it in a bowl with 2 bags of Daring chicken, shredded carrots and lots of onion and bell pepper. Air roast for about 25 minutes while the rice cooker does it’s thang.

Delicious, with a little salad on the side too.

This is for lazy days where I get home and am just too tired to cook.

You’ll find that this invites scratches in your lens coatings, with minute bits of dust and sand embedding themselves into the cloth.

Microfiber’s strength is also its weakness: being so good at trapping material that it never lets them go, even after washing.

Beware.

I don’t care or expect public services to be profitable, just lower cost and higher quality than a private Enterprise version.

Do we need quality, clean, reliable drinking water? Then don’t depend on shitrag nestle, who will figure out how to make it a stratified subscription.

A lot of your points, valid as they are, can be addressed if we have good transparency and oversight.

Let’s take advantage of how digital life has become, make reports accessible to the regular Jane/joe that detail where our tax dollars went.

Thank you so much, this was an awesome article and even more excellent shots.

NYC MTA sets Manhattan congestion price at $15 for most vehicles, just one MTA vote left before the first congestion pricing in North America (www.planetizen.com)

New York City’s congestion pricing program is moving forward with a $15 fee on passenger vehicles, reports Stephen Nessen in Gothamist, after the MTA board voted to approve it. The program now enters a 60-day public comment period before a final vote....

Ah man. I hate to break it to you, but your last attempt at a girlfriend was right about you before she left. The lacking creativity and energy thing.

Good luck to you.

Lol ah you got me with your creativity again. Oh it hurts.

Faulty logic appears to be a forte.

Why should I wait? Do you know what an air cooled engine is? I incur more risk in driving specifically for the benefits of agility and compactness.

I’m sorry that my ability to go past you makes you upset, but again, I’m exposing myself to significantly more danger specifically for the benefits including the ability to not be stopped by the car in front of me, much higher mpgs, lower cost of ownership, etc.

Do you get mad at bicycles because they don’t operate the same as cars? I pass you in the bike lane all the time on my bicycle.

No thanks! We’re working on changing the laws to accommodate our less polluting, more fun, more efficient vehicles. Enjoy your traffic!

At least my life will have been more fun and interesting than yours 👍

Also: laws protect nobody until after the fact. Even in your car, you’re expected to keep your wits about you.

Either way, I’m usually passing people at about 10mph faster than they are in slow traffic, about the speed of a bicycle. When someone wants to change lanes, crossing my path, plenty of time for me to slow down and let them do their thing. If I don’t keep moving at least a little bit, my motorcycle will overheat as it is not water-cooled.
