I'm just this guy, you know?

I just deleted my entire library and redownloaded it.

A lot of my files were shitty 480p versions of movies from the Napster days. Now they’re all 1080p, with a few 720p exceptions (mainly tv series episodes). All in all 500 something files in total. Now just watching uTorrent slowly download them all. Hopefully my VPN keeps the eyes off of me…

I’m keeping my original pirates of Mr. Robot for posterity

What is your unpopular flim opinion

I’ll go first. Mine is that I can’t stand the Deadpool movies. They are self aware and self referential to an obnoxious degree. It’s like being continually reminded that I am in a movie. I swear the success of that movie has directly lead to every blockbuster having to have a joke every 30 seconds

The movie was alright.

“Somehow the emperor returned” was terrible.

It makes sense that the rebels didn't know about it. It doesn't make sense that the first the audience hears about it is that line. It feels lazy. They could have mentioned, in an offhand way, that the remnants of the Empire is pursuing cloning tech. Not only would this tie the final trilogy to the second trilogy. (First? Episodes 1-3, anyway) But it would also make that line make way more sense.

As as much as the Thrawn trilogy feels like bad fanfic, it does tie the whole clone wars/rebellion thing together, and features someone who comes back as a clone. I think it would have made a way better trilogy than what we got.

I teach undergraduates and it’s hit or miss whether they understand what a file path is.

I provide tech support to Linux sysadmins and it's still hit or miss whether they understand what a file path is.

NYC MTA sets Manhattan congestion price at $15 for most vehicles, just one MTA vote left before the first congestion pricing in North America (www.planetizen.com)

New York City’s congestion pricing program is moving forward with a $15 fee on passenger vehicles, reports Stephen Nessen in Gothamist, after the MTA board voted to approve it. The program now enters a 60-day public comment period before a final vote....

The last time I was in NYC I was awoken by some asshole running his motorcycle up and down sixth avenue at five in the goddamn morning. And I was on the 14th floor of a hotel.

The fact that they weren't drawn and quartered in the street shows what a lawless place NYC is.

There’s that welcoming New York attitude.

No wonder I avoid it

@Semi-Hemi-Demigod@kbin.social avatar

Yet another great example of the NYC mindset

Semi-Hemi-Demigod,
@Semi-Hemi-Demigod@kbin.social avatar

It’s so NYC to think there’s only two mindsets: You, and everyone else

Semi-Hemi-Demigod,
@Semi-Hemi-Demigod@kbin.social avatar

If you think that’s me talking bad about NYC then you’re way too fragile to actually be from NYC

Semi-Hemi-Demigod,

And yet you continue to reply? Definitely not a New Yorker.

Definitely not a New Yorker. They’re much better at insults.

The Texas Superconducting Super Collider under construction, 1990s. (lemmy.world)

Excerpt: The Texas Superconducting Super Collider would have dwarfed CERN’s LHC, according to reports. It was designed as an enormous underground ring complex situated close to Waxahachie and had it been allowed to go forward, would have been considered the most energetic particle accelerator in the world. The project’s...

Secret service agents moments after the 1981 assassination attempt of Ronald Reagan. (lemmy.world)

Excerpt: On this day in 1981, President Ronald Reagan was shot in the chest at the side entrance of the Washington Hilton on Connecticut Avenue by John Hinckley Jr. Reagan was walking to his limousine after a speech to AFL-CIO leaders when Hinckley, 25, who was standing among a group of reporters, fired six shots, hitting Reagan...

The garbage disposal fail ($300 for a new disposal; $450 for the plumber because I got in over my head);

This seems a little outrageous. Garbage disposals are about $150 new, and I have no plumbing experience and can swap one out in less than 15 minutes. Unless you seriously damaged some pipes or the plumber was getting double time I have no idea why it would cost that much.

This is why I jumped at the chance to buy my parents' old house when they moved out. Not only were they giving me a good deal, but I knew how my dad took care of the place and that I wasn't buying a fire hazard or worse.

Accurate in real life? No.

I have a hypothesis that adolescents staying up late and the elderly waking up early is an an evolutionary holdover from a time when someone needed to be awake to watch for lion attacks.
