I see a lot of posts lately, mainly in ‘world news’ communities, that when I investigate their source, I cannot come to any other conclostion that purposefully spreading of fake news and propaganda on lemmy....
Maybe we can have a fact-check community. People could post there if they find fake news or they could request fact-checks of information by others. It should be a community with strict rules on referring to sources, creating valid arguments, etc. and content should only be banned if it does not adhere to these rules.
A bit similar to what happens in scientific research. I will reject a paper if there are issues with its methods. I will not reject it based on its conclusions if the methods are fine. I think this works in academia, why wouldn’t it work with the right moderators here? There are still a lot of people who value truth above all else and in this way, they would have a space here.
I realized I interacted / posted / commented less and less on reddit these last couple of years. Couldn't even tell you why exactly. Now I've been here for a week and, I don't know, I just like interacting again... Hope it stays like this for a while :)
I agree. I am a very shy person, so, it is not easy for me to comment, even if it is anonymous. I always think that nobody is waiting to hear from me in the enormous stream of other comments that are there as well. At the same time, if by some accident someone actually reads your comment, I feel that if you have a different way of wording or a different opinion, your head will get chopped off.
Because there are far less comments here, I feel like I can actually contribute something to the discussion. And people seem to be just nicer and more willing to understand each other instead of just repeating the same stuff over and over again. I like it better here!
Not just corporate censorship, also all the other stuff they were doing. I do not want to be used and manipulated and made addicted just so some business can make a little more money.
That is a very detailed explanation. Of course, I hope it is not true and you made it seem plausible that it is not true (which is more difficult than proving that it is). So, that is a good thing.
I think I was responding a bit to the tone in which it was said that it was imaginary. I guess it seemed it was mocking the person who made the comment it replied to. So, I was trying to soften that, I guess.
Thanks for your response. I think it shows you have great character. I think it is easy to forget you are interacting with humans. I think we all do it sometimes.
I should have been more directly why I was responding to you in that way. However, it was sort of automatic and I only thought about why I did it later. That would have made an easier discussion.
What can we do, as lemmy users, to fight fake news being pushed in the platform?

Corporate Censorship Bring You Here?
