SnotFlickerman, to privacy in Secretive White House Surveillance Program Gives Cops Access to Trillions of US Phone Records
@SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Surprise, your local cops are authoritarian pieces of shit who think the law only applies to citizens, who they view as an invading force here to harm cops.

All Cops Are Bastards, and the systems that uphold them as well.

Exactly. I fucking live downtown and I have more to complain about businesses that operate down here than the damn homeless.

The only “thugs” I ever see downtown is the posse of ten cops it takes to shoo one homeless person out of a park.

This. Congress is in control of auditing the Pentagon.

The most the IRS would do would be auditing the incomes of people who work at the Pentagon.

Badly put together meme.

@SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

These people should be looking into spinning up Matrix servers if they want a private club with real privacy so bad.

It’s definitely a weird thing to constantly be upset about: “People can see what I posted in public when I post them publicly!”

It’s like complaining about people being able to take photos with you in the background in public. It’s a public space, there is no expectation of privacy.

If you want a private internet experience, you have to put some work in.

SnotFlickerman, to privacy in Insight on how the ADs network is built?
@SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

The benefit is generally only cosmetic at your end.

As backwards as it sounds, the more you do to try to “anonymize” yourself on the internet, the more you actually stand out… because so few people go out of their way to use anonymization tools, which are easily spotted.

So what happens is your profile goes into the “People Who Like Privacy” bucket, and you get ads related to the fact that you want privacy.

Bill Hicks really summed this up nearly 40 years ago, ad execs will use any and every psychological tool and path to get you to buy.

They may not be able to create a profile on “you” speficially with your name, address, email, et cetera, but they will be able to create a general profile for “you” about your preferences, web browser, screen size, geolocation, et cetera.

That would be the best outcome, legal framework for the “flat” management structure, making it an employee owned company.

Most traditions start with humans looking for an excuse to drink and party and generally overindulge.

Any old excuse will do, even celebrating genocide.

@SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

You hear that, plebes? The governments of the world have already won, so you shouldn’t even try being an independent human being with a sliver of privacy.

You’re not entirely wrong but the defeatist attitude screams “I love the flavor of this boot.”

“The “Overlords” of this world are that smart and special, maybe you should just let them be in charge” is a real wild fuckin take. Especially when the last fifteen years have been nothing but evidence that the “Overlords” of the world are absolute fucking dipshits just like anyone else.

I know your service is free, open source, devoid of ads, and not trying to steal my data, but iTs NoT uSeR fRiEnDlY.

Because being user-friendly is way, way, way more important than things like privacy, not being bombarded by ads, and not supporting billionaires who use their money to influence the law to benefit themselves and harm us.

Humans are fucking lazy pieces of shit and that’s a major reason why the billionaire class keeps winning, because most of us are too lazy to learn something new or do something the hard way because “there’s already an easy way.”

Boo Boo Bear: “I do believe corporations rob us of our dignity and independence, and that these systems must be ripped down, burnt down, or leveled by any force necessary.”
