The fact is that Serj is a class traitor.

All Landlords Are Bastards.

He can talk all the good talk all he wants but he’s renting a luxury place for $6000 a month.

It’s a non-answer that their privacy policy explicitly states that they will collect this type of information and that they stipulate what kind parties they can share that info with?

www.plex.tv/about/privacy-legal/

That’s the straightest answer that you’re going to get. Privacy policies like this are bullshit, but they’re also the norm so acting like it’s a non-answer after 20 years of this being the norm seems a little… naive, perhaps?

It’s the fault of the pilots for not understanding undocumented things and not having checked plug doors nuts before taking off !

Pretty sure they got away with not fully fixing this one by whining to the FAA that the full fix would be too costly.

Like, what is the fucking use of our institutions like the FAA if all they god damned do is rubber stamp this shit for their corpo fuckwit buddies?

Lastly the printer… Not sure what to do with this, any suggestions?

Try to build an equivalent to the GameBoy Camera? It used receipt paper.

You might have to search for a low-resolution black & white camera, though, to really make it work.

Anyway, that would be my dumb project for a receipt printer.

Repairing things used to be normal. From that point of view, conservatism is perfectly right.

Conservatism has only ever existed to keep an aristocracy. Look at history, it’s literally why it developed as an ideology, because a lot of the aristocracy from Europe didn’t actually want the aristocracy to end, so they needed to make up political positions that supported the idea that there should be an untouchable elite to whom laws don’t apply.

It has literally never, ever existed to “conserve” anything like natural resources or the rights of individuals. At it’s core it was about retaining Kings, Queens, Dukes, and Lords without actually keeping those, but instead making it about wealth.

So yeah, gonna hard disagree on that. Conservatism is the source making laws that deny you the ability to repair, the conservatives aren’t the ones out here fighting for it.

I live in the US, but there’s a lot of media I’d like to watch that isn’t available in the US. Piracy is literally my only option, because I’m not given legal ways to consume that content.

Woke up this morning and it seemed to me,

A little more like Bukowski.

And I believe privacy defeatism is unhealthy.

Is there such a thing as “perfect privacy?”

Because it seems that, to exist in society, is to give up some form of privacy by dint of existing in it.

You cannot stop yourself from being observed by other people, if they can see you. That’s just basic reality.

To be completely private, you would have to live in the woods and not interact with anyone or speak with anyone.

Is it defeatist to be realistic about the limitations of the idea of privacy?

As someone who has spent a lot of time seeking internet privacy, I’ve learned that more often than not I’m making myself more conspicuous. That doesn’t mean I’m going to give up on privacy, but it does mean that I’m going to consider its limitations.

EDIT: I’m reminded of an interview with Mark Hossler from Negativland. The interview is long gone from the internet (it was on an obscure website pre-youtube) but the center of it always stuck with me.

“If you really want full control of your art, don’t show it to anybody, keep it in your home.” His argument was Richard Dawkins’ argument for memes. The human mind functions by copying and mimicking. When someone else has viewed your artwork, they’ve already created an internal image of it in their memory. That memory is inconsistent with reality, but if they have a good memory, they can recreate it relatively easily (if they have similar artistic skills). You can’t really stop that kind of copying from happening, so the only way to fight it and keep “complete control” is to not share it at all.

Similarly, the only way to have complete control over your privacy is by not interacting with anyone at all.
