StorminNorman,

You’re still gonna be attracted to 20yos physically. There’s over 100k years of evolution that wants you to mate with the fittest, most attractive mate that you can. But is that a person you actually want to spend time with outside of the bedroom? So, yeah, your standards in regards to physical attractiveness are gonna drop as you age, but your other standards will likely change too.

StorminNorman,

Heaps of people still buy music, sales still account for around half of music revenue.

StorminNorman,

To be pedantic, there was DRM on music purchased on iTunes prior to 2009. Was a bit of a ballache converting that back in the day. Could’ve been worse though, I do like to buy most of my music physically so I didn’t have to convert too much of my collection (still a ballache though cos it was still way more files than I wanted to convert).

StorminNorman,

Bandcamp, qobuz, bleep, Beatport, theres a number of options out there to pick up cheap digital music. And then you also have the aforementioned eBay and discogs etc. Which, true, is second hand. But even splitting the amount the artist makes from that physical release between you and the person who previously bought it, they are still making way more from you than they would from just your streams.

And sure, 216 albums doesn’t seem like much. But they’d be all yours. Nobody could take them from you (well, besides if you got physically robbed I guess). There’s a bunch of stuff that has disappeared off of there. Big Black, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Joanna Newsom, off the top of my head. You also have artists that have never been on there, Tatsuro Yamashita comes to mind. It also used to be a real problem with artists like Tool, The Beatles, AC/DC just not being there at all too. Then there’s other times where I’ve been playing albums, and tracks are just straight up missing (I presume due to licensing issues). I remember being royally annoyed with A Cross The Universe missing a bunch of tracks ages ago, and it used to happen frequently enough with other releases that it made an impression. Plus all the classic hip-hop that is missing cos of sample clearance issues. And heaven forbid if you wanna listen to classical music, or traditional music from around the world, it’s as if Spotify has never heard of the genre (both genres are represented, but it’s such a poor showing that they would’ve done better if there was just none at all). And I understand that this isn’t all on Spotify, but I’ve never had any of those issues with my personal collection.

Is it perfect? No. Does it reward the artist fairly? Undoubtedly. Would I take it over Spotify? Every day of the year for the rest of my life.

StorminNorman,

Most places where you live. This isn’t a problem for the entire globe. Some of it, sure. But not all of it. I pay with hundreds all the time in Australia and noone gives a shit.

StorminNorman,

cries in downloads such obscure stuff that I’m lucky if it has 2 or 3 seeds

StorminNorman,

Actually, she did have HIV in the movie, the screenwriter confirmed it a few years ago. She did have hep-c in the book though.

StorminNorman,

The documentary film The Producers goes into great detail about the making of it.

StorminNorman,

This fits this inatance on two levels, cos that’s New York from flavor of love.

StorminNorman,

Companies exiting a market and leaving clients/customers without their service isn’t a new thing. Was happening well before DRM was even thought of, let alone implemented. And still happens now. Polaroid leaving the instant photo market comes to mind.

StorminNorman,

Since you’re being pedantic, I will be too. According to the Cambridge dictionary, the word destroy can mean “to damage something so badly it cannot be used”. I’d argue making the planet incompatible for life is a pretty fucking good example of it being damaged so badly that it cannot be used. And we are doing that, it’s predicted we could lose up to 70% of all plant and animal species by the end of this century if we continue the way we are. Dunno how long after that it’d take to kill 100%, but I’d say taking out 70% is giving it a red hot crack…

StorminNorman,

Kurzgast (or however you spell it) did a video on this. In short, not enough fissible material on earth (well, I guess technically it’d be “in the earth”) to completely destroy the planet. Which is kinda remarkable cos that’s equivalent to 10 billion of the bombs dropped on Hiroshima.

StorminNorman,

It has to be close to number 1. I’m Australian and was only 9 at the time, and remember watching it on tv back in the day. The only other ones that have really stood out like that to me are the ones that end with the driver committing suicide on live tv…

When a Torrent disappears from 1337x, how do you find out what happened?

Yesterday there was a controversial movie torrent that was getting 1000s of downloads and was on the “popular this week” page, and today it’s just gone. I went to the uploader’s account page and it’s not there either. Just like it never existed....

StorminNorman, (edited )

Bold claim to make from one comment. But then again, I shouldn’t expect any less from someone with your post history…

StorminNorman,

Lol, 10s on your profile says exactly why you think this way. Good luck getting through life so full of hate.

StorminNorman,

You did have to pay, but it was massively supplemented by the govt with their food stamp program so you didn’t pay much. Which makes sense, a lot of the people who needed this food were women with kids to feed and husbands overseas fighting. Fun bit of trivia, a shitload of people sent in what stamps they could when queen Elizabeth was married so she could afford her dress. She didn’t actually use them though (I forget what happened to them).

StorminNorman,

I really hope you’re making a joke cos of this one very limited example. Cos if not…

Anyone else feels like they want to destroy their old sim and never give their contact to anyone ever again?

If signal gets the new username feature, this just might be what i do, so fricking tired of people just blindly giving random apps and websites their contact permissions and they get my contact as well, and there’s nothing i can do about it

StorminNorman,

Need more info. The censoring or the swearing?

StorminNorman,

As an Australian, I’m offended. Swearing is part of our grammar.

StorminNorman,

There is such a thing as country influenced hip hop. Gangstagrass comes immediately to mind as a band doing that that I quite like.

I am pouring one out to this little champ. Stripping HDCP and letting me... archive streaming services from 2016-2023 RIP (lemmy.world)

What killed it, well after reviewing some PS4 gameplay I noticed that it was having audio issues, like it would allow some sounds but not all. It was almost as if it was receiving a 5.1 audio output but was missing the centre channel. Even though the PS4 was set to stereo....

StorminNorman,

I torrent so much I had to switch to 720p to save space and still have a backlog of 3tb. I blame my ADHD, I have to hoard everyyyyyyyyything.
