TeaHands, to asklemmy in What's the benefit of using Kbin over Lemmy?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

Nice! Bookmarked for when this inevitably keeps coming up in support threads haha :D

I’ve definitely found it to be a good way to get interactions going in smaller communities so far, if the topic has a decent presence on the Mastodon side. Can’t quite decide if that’s cheating or not but some of those communities need all the help they can get!

Good a reason as any tbh.

Yeah both of those use the Lemmy software. Kbin is separate software. It works pretty much the same way as Lemmy in terms of there being multiple Kbin instances, they’re just running on the different software.

Fwiw you can post to both Lemmy communities and Mastodon at the same time, that does work pretty well, but it has to be from your Mastodon account and you tag the Lemmy community as a user. (First line of the Mastodon toot becomes the post title on Lemmy, fyi if you’re going to try it, and you can tag the community at the end it doesn’t need to be the first thing in your toot)

Not actually sure if that works the same way for Kbin magazines, I’m subscribed to plenty of them but most of them are kind of inactive so never had chance to test it. If anyone’s done the science and can report back, that would be interesting to know!

TeaHands, to asklemmy in If people using Reddit are called Redditors, then what do we call people who use Lemmy?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

Case closed.

This question does get asked a lot, as someone else pointed out. But even if you go back to when it was asked a couple of years ago the consensus has always been lemmings.

TeaHands, to asklemmy in What movie did you rewatch most often?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

Grosse Point Blank is not my favourite film of all time. But it’s the only one I’ve ever been able to honestly give a perfect 10/10 score.

The story, the cast, the script, the pacing, obviously the soundtrack, there is just not a single flaw I can find.

We do an extended edition marathon at least twice a year, sometimes more if it’s been a tough time. Last time we watched them was the week before getting married, to distract me from my stress.

I’m currently rereading the books and once that’s done we’ll do our first marathon as marrieds! 😄

I simultaneously hate to think, and also am very proud, of how many times we must have seen them by now.

TeaHands, to asklemmy in How do you cheer yourself up after a rough day? Or a rough year?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

Bubblebath. Whatever the problem, bubblebath.

Although if you’re in the US I think a lot of you have weirdly small baths over there so might not be quite as great an option. ymmv.

TeaHands, to asklemmy in What is your dark figure/shadow person story?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

Love how OP thinks whatever this is is just normal common knowledge and the rest of us are like…erm…

TeaHands, to asklemmy in What's your real-life superpower?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

Creepily excellent memory…although only for things that are pointless or people would really rather I didn’t remember.

TeaHands, to asklemmy in Be honest, do you still use reddit?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve found that the trick is not to actually sub to meme communities, even if you want to see them. That way you can browse your subscribed feed for all the discussion on the topics you want, but then you can switch over to All > Top Day or whatever and still end up seeing most of the memes in there because they’re so popular.

TeaHands, to asklemmy in What's the first dream you remember having?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

So when I was little my room was arranged in a way that if I was in bed, my head was opposite the door. I would sleep with the door open so lying on my side I was looking out onto the landing. Our stairs were just outside my door and they were open to the living room below, I found the light and the vague murmuring of the tv to be comforting I guess.

Until I started having this recurring dream. I’d be lying in bed, looking out at the dimly-lit landing as per. I’d hear the tv get turned off and my parents start to climb the stairs, also as per. But when they got to the top and came into view they wouldn’t be my parents at all, they were…dun dun duuuuuun…big scary dragons! They’d see me looking and come into my room and stand menacingly over me, and then I’d wake up.

I started shutting my bedroom door after that.

TeaHands, to asklemmy in Downvotes = “I disagree” or “this is bad and you should feel bad”?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

The only times I’ve really been downvoting is if someone is giving out completely incorrect information, like in a support thread or something, and confusing matters. It’s not a personal judgement or anything, just trying to keep things clear for the person asking the question.

If I disagree with a comment, well no biggie. Sometimes it’s worth discussing like adults and sometimes it’s just a subjective opinion. If it’s offensive, I’ll report it and block the user.

TeaHands, to asklemmy in How can I filter my Lemmy feed by language?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

Select “undetermined” and “english” in your profile language settings. Plus whatever else you speak, obviously.

TeaHands, to asklemmy in Is there a way to filter across communities in Lemmy using the search function?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

You can sort by various metrics and search by keyword at lemmyverse.net/communities
