TeaHands, to asklemmy in What movie did you rewatch most often?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

We do an extended edition marathon at least twice a year, sometimes more if it’s been a tough time. Last time we watched them was the week before getting married, to distract me from my stress.

I’m currently rereading the books and once that’s done we’ll do our first marathon as marrieds! 😄

I simultaneously hate to think, and also am very proud, of how many times we must have seen them by now.

TeaHands, to asklemmy in What replacement for each major social media do you use
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

I didn’t really do Twitter but was big into Instagram for a while until the whole thing started with them pushing reels, so honestly Mastodon is more of a replacement for IG in my particular case. I can upload images, so there’s no real need to keep a separate Pixelfed. Pixelfed users who just want to see images can in fact follow people on Mastodon, and just get their images. I can also follow people on Pixelfed and see them in my Mastodon feed. So that covers all the bases really.

Still use Discord plenty, never really had a problem with it although I do use it for its intended purpose rather than trying to turn it into a forum which is where a lot of servers seem to go wrong.

Don’t use FB, although I understand Friendica is the main replacement software for that.

Been considering looking into PeerTube but it seems best for very short videos just due to file storage. Mine tend to be more around the 15-20 minute mark on average so not sure that would work.

TeaHands, to asklemmy in What other fediverse apps/services do you use?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

I enjoy Mastodon a lot, had two accounts there since last November. It’s good for just quick casual updates and convos that don’t take much thinking or drain your social battery. My partner is on Pixelfed but I just follow him from Mastodon so that works well.

Recently signed up to Bookwyrm because I was saving way too many scifi book recommendations on here and figured it made sense to organise them somewhere.

I use LinkStack for my content creator alter ego, and am considering getting into PeerTube too, but need to look into that more.

TeaHands, to asklemmy in What do you want for Christmas?

Apparently our modest Christmas dreams are downvote-worthy to someone. But it sounds pretty perfect to me! :D

TeaHands, to asklemmy in What's the benefit of using Kbin over Lemmy?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

Nice! Bookmarked for when this inevitably keeps coming up in support threads haha :D

I’ve definitely found it to be a good way to get interactions going in smaller communities so far, if the topic has a decent presence on the Mastodon side. Can’t quite decide if that’s cheating or not but some of those communities need all the help they can get!

TeaHands, to asklemmy in What's the benefit of using Kbin over Lemmy?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

Fwiw you can post to both Lemmy communities and Mastodon at the same time, that does work pretty well, but it has to be from your Mastodon account and you tag the Lemmy community as a user. (First line of the Mastodon toot becomes the post title on Lemmy, fyi if you’re going to try it, and you can tag the community at the end it doesn’t need to be the first thing in your toot)

Not actually sure if that works the same way for Kbin magazines, I’m subscribed to plenty of them but most of them are kind of inactive so never had chance to test it. If anyone’s done the science and can report back, that would be interesting to know!

TeaHands, to asklemmy in Is there a way to filter across communities in Lemmy using the search function?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

You can sort by various metrics and search by keyword at lemmyverse.net/communities

This was low-key one of the most exciting moments when I actually visited Iceland. First thing we did was stop off at a cash machine and I was giggling like a child at the ISK. Also found a shop called Aurum (the name of the premium in-game currency) so clearly that’s an Icelandic word too although I could never figure out exactly what it means.

TeaHands, to asklemmy in What's the benefit of using Kbin over Lemmy?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

It’s one of those use-cases (and I understand why it’s not a thing, but still) where I’d love to have quote toots. Just being able to share the Mastodon version of a post but add a bit of text and hashtags and stuff so people on there see it and can easily interact with it. Commenting works but is a bit awkward on one side and a bit spammy on the other.

So many ways the integration could eventually go! But what we do already have is still pretty cool, just gonna keep experimenting with the best way to get people talking to each other.

Anyway consider me a recruit to your Lemmy/Mastodon crosspost revolution! 😄

TeaHands, to asklemmy in What's the benefit of using Kbin over Lemmy?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

You’ve articulated my thoughts perfectly and emboldened me not only to keep doing it, but to do it way more.

The trickiest part so far has been wording toots in such a way that they still look and read like Mastodon content, but also are in the correct format for Lemmy. Also the fact that I recently moved from an instance with an extra-long character limit to one with the default, but such is life lol.
