TheDoctorDonna,

🤘 fuck cars.

I don’t know how to link communities cause I’m old and stupid, but there is a fuck cars and a micromobility community.

TheDoctorDonna,

Not really. I live in Northern British Columbia and there are people riding their bikes in all weather. Ebikes have a temperature limit, but you can get winter tires for your bicycle. Unless you drive for a living, it’s perfectly reasonable.

TheDoctorDonna,

Fair enough, but if only rural people drove and everyone else walked, rode bike or transit in town it would make a huge difference.

Honestly - How much will you sacrifice for a better world?

Confronted with the likelihood that we cannot achieve climate goals, confront socioeconomic inequality, and ultimately build a better world without significant personal sacrifice: How much are you personally capable and willing to lose? I mean this in the most earnest way possible. Acknowledging the likely possibility of working...

TheDoctorDonna,

If it was guaranteed to make the world better and not just some empty political promise, I would give up every luxury I could think of. The only thing I wouldn’t be willing to sacrifice are lives and human rights. If we needed to live in a tiny home with no internet, never eat out again and sew our clothes so that everyone is equal and has the same rights and comforts, I’m in. It would suck, but we’d survive and learn how to be content in knowing that no one is suffering for our greed anymore.

TheDoctorDonna,

Fundie Fridays puts out enjoyable, quality content. They’re is a little more “low budget” but good quality and they discuss right-wing extremism and Christian fundamentalism.

TheDoctorDonna,

I was a big fan of Illuminaughtii/ Blair Zon for a long time. Now she’s so controversial, other creators make content on her.

TheDoctorDonna,

There’s a lot of legal stuff and then generally the way she treats people (especially people who were supposed to be her friends, employees or housemates) is pretty controversial, but technically not illegal yet. She tried to take Oz’s house away from him through convoluted legal practices and used her power over him to turn him in to a slave.

TheDoctorDonna,

She gives rise to public disagreement, I think she fits the controversial definition as well, but I didn’t realize I was supposed to be pedantic when I comment.

TheDoctorDonna,

One of my co-workers perfectly quoted the Cyberman-Dalek scene never having seen a single episode of Doctor Who. Apparently it was all over her tik tok. I mean, I’ll take it, I hope the memeability encourages more viewers. And if that doesn’t do it, NPH should.

If you have a cavity that you can’t afford to deal with go get some clove oil ( yes, I know how people feel about essential oils and I usually agree- but this is legit) and cotton swabs. Soak the swab in the oil to excess and then put the swab in the cavity and squeeze the excess oil into the cavity. This is going to taste like you ate a thousand pounds of cinnamon and your mouth might water- a lot, but clove oil is a dentist approved antiseptic. You have to be careful, it can burn your face skin if you get it anywhere unintended.

I have been slowly losing my teeth over the past decade and am too broke to fix it, so I had to rely on clove oil between being able to afford extractions. It helped a lot. If the oil doesn’t work then the infection is too far gone and you need good antibiotics. They wouldn’t even be able to extract a tooth that bad.

TheDoctorDonna,

And rarely available, and far away for most people. Getting in to a dental school for complicated work is like winning the lottery.

TheDoctorDonna,

I know… There are 10 dental schools in Canada, the odds of getting in to one to have any work done are almost literally like winning the lottery. I’m sure it’s not much better in the U.S. plus you have to be lucky enough to live near one. The nearest major city to me is 8 hours away. And typically you have to fit within an income threshold, which we don’t as we are a two income household with benefit, albeit benefits that are quite limited.

TheDoctorDonna,

Pretty much every item of clothing I own is from the thrift store or has been second handed in some way. I love being able to find clothes that are more my style without the $70+ price tags and I’m able to maintain a business casual wardrobe required for my office.

Furniture that isn’t beds are all second hand as well, I just steam clean everything upholstered. Buying brand new is a money making sham that only fills our landfills unnecessarily.

Also, learning how to cook has saved us a lot of money of takeout and prepackaged meals. There are so many ways to learn now too.

We also no longer own a vehicle, we walk, bike, or transit everywhere. I do maintain a license so I can rent a car when necessary though. Vehicles nickle and dime you to death when you own the outright or cost a years wages or so to buy, plus gas and insurance prices are insane. It costs me $500 a year to ride the bus.

Can anyone else feel sensations in their brain?

Last time I checked there aren’t nerve endings in our brain, so it should be impossible to feel sensations in my brain. However, at random times during my life, like seeing the plot twist in Fight Club for example, I’ve felt feelings in my brain. I just felt it again now while doing some intense introspection, and I just...

TheDoctorDonna,

I went off Effexor cold turkey (not by choice) in 2013 and this has been my life ever since. Sometimes it’s so bad it makes my limbs tingle.

TheDoctorDonna,

It was Effexor for me too, I was forced off it cold turkey and had been exhibiting signs of serotonin syndrome. 10 years later I still haven’t found anything that works long term to help keep the zaps away and they get debilitating sometimes.

TheDoctorDonna, (edited )

What if you don’t fear technology, have no life, and are technologically behind and don’t understand what anything but the apple and windows symbols are? I recognize the penguin from an EEE PC that I had like 15 years ago, but that’s it.

*Sorry I also recognize Google, just not immediately apparently.

TheDoctorDonna,

The worst part is I’m not old enough for grandkids lmao.

TheDoctorDonna, (edited )

Oooh I don’t want to spoil new episodes for anyone so I can’t actually respond to the Time Lord knowledge bit, but I feel like I recognized some of the words you used lmao.

TheDoctorDonna,

I am loving the specials and I am so glad to have “my” Doctor and companion back, if only for a short time.

TheDoctorDonna,

He really is, so is his wife. And he slays every role he plays. I rarely miss an opportunity to catch him on screen.

And I am so glad RTD is back! Moffat was fun and all, but both he and Chibnall were better at the short stories that could be told in an episode or two.

TheDoctorDonna,

Technically yes. There’s lots of open source plans online to build your own bicycle.

But even hypothetically a bike would be preferable to a car for everyone involved.
