Thorny_Insight, (edited ) to asklemmy in Which YouTuber still creates high-quality videos to this day?

Andrew Camarata and Foresty Forest are one of the few no-bullshit YouTubers that I know of who simply focus on making good content and nothing else.

EDIT: Steve Wallis and post10 aswell

Thorny_Insight, (edited ) to asklemmy in What system or method do you use for your monthly budget or personal finance?

I write all my expenses and incomes down onto app called Wallet by budget bakers. I don’t set any monthly budgets or anything however, because I find that keeping track alone already makes me much more mindful consumer. I already have records of my finances for almost 3 years so it’s pretty interesting to get to monitor my spending across a long timeframe.

Thorny_Insight, to asklemmy in What do you follow to keep track of new media releases?

I don’t. Same as with news; if it’s important I’m going to hear about it one way or another. Otherwise I’m fine just staying out of the loop.

Thorny_Insight, to asklemmy in Out of all the cars you've owned, which one holds a special place in your heart as the absolute favourite.

They would if they could. USA has really strict import laws to boost their own car manufacturing.

Thorny_Insight, to asklemmy in Out of all the cars you've owned, which one holds a special place in your heart as the absolute favourite.

Well I’ve only had two but my current one is basically my dream car so the answer is 2007 Nissan Navara King Cab, 2.5 litre turbo diesel 4x4, all black and murdered out.

Thorny_Insight, to asklemmy in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?

It has nothing to do with being or wanting to seem smart. People are fed up with their smartphones already and the idea of getting yet another device that’s demanding your attention and needing to be kept charged up is repulsive. A smart watch doesn’t bring anything of value for people like me.

Thorny_Insight, to asklemmy in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?

My smartphone does all of that

Thorny_Insight, to asklemmy in What setting do you use for Lemmy for active posts?

I go thru the top 12 hours posts from the communities I’m subscribed to and if there’s nothing new there I switch to active and all.

Huge caveat here is that I have hundreds of communities blocked so that my “all feed” is even somewhat tolerable.

Thorny_Insight, to asklemmy in People of Lemmy that take more than 5 seconds to start your car and drive, what are you doing?

Waiting for oil to reach the top of the engine

Thorny_Insight, (edited ) to asklemmy in Anyone else feels like they want to destroy their old sim and never give their contact to anyone ever again?

I just don’t like that anyone with my number can simply just call me whenever they want and not answering is seen as something that needs an explanation. Don’t get me wrong, I think that being able to make phone calls is a great thing but not in it’s current form. Would be much better if people had to send a message first and I could then call back when it suits me or something. It’s crazy that you can just demand my full attention to yourself when ever you want. For the very least it should be something truly urgent.

Thorny_Insight, (edited ) to asklemmy in Is society becoming more fake ?

Anyone can watch videos of some african villages being visited by outsiders and how happy the local population generally appear. There’s a ton of negative stuff for those people to deal with, but I think there’s something to be said about the benefits of communal living no matter how much I try to convince myself it’s fine being by myself.

Thorny_Insight, to news in Richest 1% account for more carbon emissions than poorest 66%, report says

The most comprehensive study of global climate inequality ever undertaken shows that this elite group, made up of 77 million people including billionaires, millionaires and those paid more than US$140,000 (£112,500) a year, accounted for 16% of all CO2 emissions in 2019

So while this obviously also includes billionaires, this group still mostly consists of wealthy upper-middle class. So in other words; people that can afford a house, two cars and few trips abroad per year generate more carbon emissions than the ones that can’t. Shocker.

Thorny_Insight, to asklemmy in Would you choose invisibility or teleportation?

Invisibility.

I don’t know why but I love the feeling of being able to watch people without them knowing about my presence. I spend a lot of time in nature and intentionally dress to blend in and I love that often when I hear/see people near me I can just stand there in plain sight and they still often don’t notice me.

Thorny_Insight, to asklemmy in What kind of wearable device do you want? Assuming it will work and feel like you imagine it would

I need that too

Thorny_Insight, to asklemmy in What kind of wearable device do you want? Assuming it will work and feel like you imagine it would

One that slaps me on the back of my head every time I’m ruminating
