They just hijack the link that someone else posts and replace it with an entirely new tracking link with a l.facebook.com domain
This bit confused me. I thought OP meant that it was the same link every time. The downside of text based forums like this - it removes a lot of nuance and leaves room for misunderstanding.
It doesn’t have to be someone who knows Linux, you just need to be able to get back to a working computer. If it means going back to Windows until you know more, that’s fine, just keep learning :)
Strangely enough, you’ve made me realise that I haven’t for a while. Not a deliberate thing, it’s just that everything I’ve bought in person recently has been with a contactless method.
I couldn’t see anything obvious, but I noticed something else
I noticed last night that the ethernet adapters changed, and the static profiles didn’t update to match. The adapters were named something like enp6so, but used to be enp2so, for example.
The DHCP profiles matched the new device names, and the static profiles were stuck on the old names.
Changing the static profiles to match the updated device names and deleting the DHCP profiles seems to have worked for now, but I don’t know why they changed in the first place.
I thought that might have been it. The DHCP profiles didn’t exist last time I looked, but the static address profiles were set to auto start.

We’re not modding, at least for now, as the other kids in the family have Switches too, so they all play online. In fairness though, the battery life has been decent so far, and we’re not usually far from a power supply.
I’m tempted to mod mine, but I might bite the bullet and get a Steam Deck instead. I don’t tend to play AAA games, so it should be my ideal handheld :)
I use Xubuntu on my media server, and have never had that happen. I get a notification saying that the Firefox snap is going to update in 14 days, but closing the browser, updating, and reopening brings all my tabs and windows back. I get the same if I close the browser and restart the computer, letting the snaps update automatically.
I wonder if OP has got the restore open tabs setting turned off.
