This also with fucking hearing aids. Like yeah it sucks, but wear them - they help. I’m sick of yelling at people with clear hearing issues who are not wearing anything to help.
I noticed exactly this since starting WFH. Even if I suffer a bout of insomnia – where I get maybe 3 hours of sleep – just being able to sleep in to 0800 makes it so much more tolerable.
It goes from feeling tormented to just feeling rough around the edges.
God but I remember fighting to keep my eyes open at school and at work back then.
To anyone dreading this for real, there are places where you can get ahead as an IC and it’s considered a parallel career track to management. 0 direct reports. Maybe some mentoring, if you want, but that’s it.
It’s like this weirdly stifled cry for help, because they feel the need to be seen as hard while also REALLY wanting people to know that they’ve been through a LOT and a normal person would be hurting BAD but not them because they’re so TOUGH but please please also recognize how hard just existing is for them.
It’s a hedged cry for help.
Like drop the macho act and ask for help, buddy. It’s ok.
Also a tertiary function of schools is to act publically funded daycare. Moving the handoff later in the morning means that parents would also need to start work later, or take on fewer hours.
Not saying that wouldn’t be a good thing, but there are knock-on effects that go beyond the clout of a school to tackle.
I don’t want to oversell it but I honestly think Andor is the best thing to come out of Star Wars in decades. It’s like the last flower of the franchise.
I don’t know how it could ever be topped. For me, it’s the peak of it all.
