Umbrias, to privacy in Brave to end 'Strict' fingerprinting protection as it breaks websites

If that’s what you feel is the case if you don’t separate politics from technology then that sounds like a personal problem to address.

Umbrias, to privacy in Brave to end 'Strict' fingerprinting protection as it breaks websites

Technology and ethics and politics are not airgapped magically distinct things. Pretending that they are is a strategic political choice you are actively making.

Alternatively, lol

Umbrias, (edited ) to archaeology in People, not the climate, found to have caused the decline of the giant mammals

Sure. But until a people can even know what the consequences of their actions are it’s a stretch to judge them harshly.

In this particular case, humans weren’t really moral agents until much later.

Umbrias, to archaeology in People, not the climate, found to have caused the decline of the giant mammals

Until a people develop science its pretty silly to me to assign a value judgment to things like this. Invasive species wipe out other species all the time, and did so before humans to boot. Mitigating that is ideal, but you don’t even really conceive of a problem until you have a society which can conceive of the harms and alternatives anyway.

Umbrias, to science_memes in Slap a "quantum" on it = Instant flux capacitor

Measuring is a loaded misnomer. Interacting with a particle changes what the particle is doing. There is no such thing as nondestructive testing in quantum physics.

Measuring just happens to be something we do a lot which necessarily causes particle interactions.

Clarify your position on this statement you dodged:

calling for Palestinian freedom is not genocide

Umbrias, to memes in Scary

The actual reason the us hasn’t switched is the many billions of dollars it would cost for basically no tangible benefit. There are probably better uses of that money if we actually got to spend it on what we wanted, like social programs.

Umbrias, to privacyguides in It seems Gen Z is just fine with parents knowing where they are all the time

While more on the parent side of the age gap of things now, I know at least five offspring personally who do this willingly. It is a nightmare to me, moreso the fact that it’s basically impossible or was the last time I looked to find ways to do it that are foss.

But the point is, probably more people do it than you expect. This place is a selection bias, most people genuinely give no rats ass about their privacy, and, to the shock of many, trust their parents and like the safety net.

There are certainly secure privacy focused approaches they retain the agency of both parties which could exist. It’s a very real niche.

Umbrias, to memes in True next-gen graphics

This is not a great argument unless you are very deep into pretending a game company can do no wrong.

There are lots of ways this is silly to claim is fine, it’s ridiculous to act like this is expected or acceptable and not just amateurish lack of polish.

But it’s okay, you can still enjoy the game. It’s okay to enjoy things which have flaws.

Humor is not an impenetrable shield against criticism. Memes shape discourse. For better and worse.
