“we have to irresponsibly spend the remainder of our budget so it doesn’t get reduced next year” followed one month later by “we need more money because we maxed out the budget last year”

Fuck this atrocious cycle. It’s everywhere. Military, police, any other government branch, corporate politics, 501c orgs pretending to be charities… The greatest crime is stockpiling unsent capital, apparently.

XeroxCool, to mildlyinteresting in How geologists collect lava

I’m no lavatorial expert, but I’d guess the thermal conductivity of lava is relatively low. The high temp and high mass will keep it warm for a while, but water has a pretty high conductivity and capacity on its own. The agitation is distributing the heat too, well beyond the regular convection rate.

I would guess.

They’re checking if you got everything and if you need anything else. They don’t care if you like it

Is that a reversible micro? What did that even work with?

XeroxCool, to memes in Reality is becoming a George Carlin bit

Smarter Every Day did a video on oxygen depletion. You get loopy. As the other comment said, that burning feeling is from high CO2, not low O2. Put your mask on first, then help others.

I much prefer an estimating timer that reliably dries all the clothes rather than a reliable timer that estimates the clothes are dry.

XeroxCool, to memes in What is your favorite type of inflation?

Yeah, cool, welcome to statistics and distibuting results to the gen pop. The basic values of mean, median, and mode can skew perception by themselves. I ask, would you agree to walk across an ocean with an average depth of 2ft? Because, statistically it’s fine, but it’d be a 99% death rate

XeroxCool, to memes in I remember, assholes

Exactly. Your lungs don’t burn when you hold your breath because O2 is low, they burn because CO2 is high. Any other gas to displace the O2 is undetectable (aside from irritants and smells). It’s why huffing helium doesn’t burn but can make you light headed faster than you realize. That’s why CO poisoning is so dangerous. CO2 poisoning is torture. And yet CO2 pits are still legal for kill pits…

Asteroid belts are really sparse. Those scifi space fights in asteroid fields with constant bobbing and weaving could probably only happen within a few years of a planet being blown up. Anything that dense would be condensed into larger bodies very quickly. Turns out space is a whole lot of nothing

XeroxCool, to mildlyinteresting in Red-Green and Blue-Yellow: The Stunning Colors You Can't See

In subtractive (paint) coloring, yes, blue and yellow makes green. In additive (light) colors, blue and yellow are opposites and add up to white with our eyes

XeroxCool, to memes in Glory to our new overlords!

I remember YouTube being millennial dominated. I wonder if it’s just a phase before realizing you’re throwing comments into the void and by being a central social site that still allows anonymity, it just invokes trolls - like xitter.

Wait till you find out YouTube isn’t that old and came about because some horny dudes couldn’t find the video of Janet Jackson’s boob. I mean, 18 is ancient for the internet and other tech, but I’d say it goes beyond just being a website with its social prevalence.

XeroxCool, to mildlyinteresting in this plug doesn't have the little holes

Standard is alive and well in engineering and architecture. We have slugs as a unit. g is ~32ft/s^2 and buildings have feet.

You’re in the building to eat food. Of course your mouth is full
