Zink,

This is me. Am white dad on vacation this week. It’s not that cold, like 70F, but there has been chilling rain all week. I’m the guy not only soaked in my shorts and t-shirt among a sea of ponchos, but still sticking my head into the fountains and stuff.

Zink,

I had this exact conversation a few days ago, and my kid is even 6!

Zink,

As an American who got to visit Sweden earlier this year, it was so refreshing and eye-opening to see how they treat people and property around them with dignity and respect.

It’s probably similar in a lot of Europe, but I did the speed run version going straight from the US to Scandinavia.

Zink,

Definitely. I think of it as “positive nihilism” or something like that.

The fact that meaning and purpose, as we think of them, aren’t an inherent part of reality and are literally in our head… it’s liberating.

Zink,

Interesting that the systemic discrimination in your case is due to a conscious choice and not systemic discrimination.

You describe the origins of “starving artist” and not “oppressed race” IMO.

Zink,

Assuming those other people are all bad or at the very least less than the good people?

Using that as a reason to not help people? And love sharing it?

Using the same money on dumb wasteful shit for yourself?

I think the people you’re running into are just run of the mill conservatives.

Zink,

I recently finished season 1 of DS9 in my current risa-inspired rewatch. I understood that reference!

Zink,

They could build a little clear dome over it right where it sits. Then build the museum around that.

Zink,

So we’re like smart Klingons to them? Sweet.

Zink,

Look at that face. That penguin STARTED with disdain for the poor.

Zink,

I remember seeing a meme like this here before. And here I am commenting again and spending more of my life on it again. :D

Zink,

It HAS been a long road…

Zink,

In this case, the nitrogen gas was plumbed directly from the big tank & heat exchanger to the various points of use.

Zink,

I used to work at a place that used a lot of nitrogen gas in manufacturing processes, as an inert control for sensors and stuff.

I don’t know how much pressure the big tank held, but there was a bunch of heat exchanger plumbing outside with a ton of ice around the first section.

Zink,

This image also just called a bunch of random cats to my location.

Zink,

I’ve had two multi-month stretches of unemployment since the start of covid, and before that I was employed for 15+ years straight.

The “not working” part never got old. I am a chill person and a homebody so it was wonderful sometimes.

The part about not earning money, yeah that sucked. Living below our means for years made sure that the financial side wasn’t life-shattering, but it was still a huge hit.

Zink,

“You just need enough drugs to make it work”

You figured out the name of my memoir!

Zink,

Whatever your grew up with will always seem more intuitive for most people. But given that I grew up with Fahrenheit, the whole “0 is cold as fuck, 100 is hot as fuck” thing works for me.

Zink,

It shows how stupid and against your own best interests this kind of thinking can be.

I am the full time worker in my family, and happy to be the provider for them. However, I would be a stay at home dad / house-husband so damn fast if my wife got some random job mom making a lot more than me. I do have my priorities in order, after all.

Zink,

I’ve done this and it has been convenient, but using a password manager is still the way to go IMO. The personal password algorithm approach starts to be a pain when you need to follow a different set of character rules or change a password. With a password manager there’s no hesitation or friction when considering a password change.

Zink,

It makes way more sense than the other cults imo. Like, I won’t get disowned by my family if I change my mind, and in an emergency he can nourish me with his noodly appendage.

Zink,

LET US SPILL SAUCE THIS DAY!

Zink,

I like to think of them as cookbook-accurate angels.
