Where does outwitting come into the equation in the first place? By all accounts, the interaction is reported as being entirely consensual.

Where’d you get that idea?

Ever read Flatland?

No, but I’m not sure how it’s relevant to a conversation about invisible beings. I suppose you suspect that information beyond your ability to sense is impossible, your love of science and rationality has twisted into science fundamentalism.

You remind me of myself in my youth. Humility certainly gets easier with age. I recommend dialing back the antagonism a bit, I warn you that in 10, 15 years you’re going to look back and cringe.

If you’re anything like I was, that warning won’t make a difference though. It’s strange being on the other side. I wish it could be otherwise, but it’s unlikely. I suppose if there were a way to effectively communicate this, then I could’ve been spared a great deal of bitterness when I was younger. Alas.

Political efficacy, in my opinion, is a better strategy than fruitless idealism.

Okie doke. What’s your suggestion then? You think a Marxist candidate can win one of the two primaries? You think a Marxist candidate can beat both parties in the general? What exactly is your alternative to incrementally progressive policy?

That’s not rhetorical, if you have a serious alternative I’m sincerely eager to hear it.

Cool. You can directly criticize capitalism. Do your grassroots. Don’t hate on Bernie because he is using the most effective tools at his disposal. What he’s doing is, probably, better overall for the general state of socialist thought in this country than any alternative at his disposal.

You can take direct labor action without denigrating the man for following his path: trying to move the window from inside the system. If you think you can do better, do it. As it stands, do you think you’ve done more, to actually shift overall labor sentiment in this country to the left, than he has through his “marginally better” moderate progressivism?

Cool, I agree. But moderately better politicians like Bernie calling out crony capitalism is better than not. Labor is still free to organize.

There are absolutely yoga positions aimed specifically for this purpose. Yoga’s been around a long time. You wouldn’t think you need this, until you do, and it works.

Is a brass coating not, technically, a flat brass piece pressed against another?

“That’s fire” has an Urban Dictionary entry from 2007.

As I’ve said, if you convince everyone who considers their environmental impact to not have children, who does that leave having children? What becomes of the environment when it’s only the environmentally negligent raising future generations?

I mean, I remember it from like a decade ago when it first came out.

Oh, buddy. 2005 was 19 years ago.

I think humanoid is a perfectly logical end-state for any terrestrial species that develops technology:

Gotta get energy somehow, consumption is more energy dense than autotrophy, so need a mouth. Gotta find the stuff to put in mouth, so need sense organs, closer to mouth is better. Light is generally the best medium for sensing, so eyes eventually. Two eyes are way better than one for depth perception, but three is inefficient energy investment with seriously diminishing returns.

Gotta move around in a gravity well to get to your food, so you need some kind of limbs. In the beginning, before developing the sophisticated nervous system necessary for dynamic locomotion, four is the minimum so you can remain stable on three limbs while you move the fourth.

Gotta start banging rocks together if you want tech, so you need hands of some kind, and two free limbs. By this point, your nervous system should be sophisticated enough to allow dynamic locomotion, but you still need at least two “legs” to move relative to each other to move on the ground in a gravity well.

I would expect most technological species with similar heritage to humans to look roughly humanoid. There are plenty of other forms, but I feel like they’d be selected against.

I predict that once robotics and AI advanced beyond some particular threshold, human-on-human relationships will be seen as strange and needlessly fetishistic. Who would want some grimey partner with their own needs when you can generate an infinitely moldable soulmate?
