Though enshittification was coined, I think, with online services in mind, this is a perfect example of the process as it applies to an OS.

The software is almost certainly provided as is, with risks assumed by the person installing it.

Still, I doubt any dev wants a catastrophic outcome and takes steps to avoid that or warn the end user if the code is more likely to bork something.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect the dev to do their best but it’s also not like you can sue them and win, most likely.

No escape from reality, tongue belongs up top. I went thru a similar thing.

I think it is worth pointing out that while therapy can certainly help you manage stress better and be more content maybe, if you are truly struggling and falling further behind here in the US, no amount of therapy (which you can’t afford anyway) is going to make you stop being hungry, sleep deprived, heal severe injury or illness, or give your home back. And going without food, sleep, or housing can lead to death.

That…isn’t quite right.

Git is a distributed version control system for software development^1.

Version control allows you to manage code versions and changes to code. You take snapshots, so to speak, of every change you make.

Distributed, in this context, means multiple developers can write code on each of their development computers and merge the changes, usually to a centralized git server.

GitHub runs a web-based git server at GitHub.com so teams can store their code in a central location on the internet.

  1. Ok, technically, even though It’s often used for software source code, it can be used for any set of files and directories.

Sorry but that’s for us to decide via intensive analysis and thorough dissection of said meme.

Can anyone else feel sensations in their brain?

Last time I checked there aren’t nerve endings in our brain, so it should be impossible to feel sensations in my brain. However, at random times during my life, like seeing the plot twist in Fight Club for example, I’ve felt feelings in my brain. I just felt it again now while doing some intense introspection, and I just...

For real. I’m on that stuff and if I am just a few hours late taking it I get the zaps. Slightest head movement and ⚡ zzzZZAP ⚡. Missing a day and I’m unable or unwilling to move.

Anti-secure culture? Things have changed a lot since the days of Nimda, SQL Slammer, etc.

Big if true. …so much for track day, I guess?

I figured this day would eventually arrive where your car snitches on you to the cops.

I suppose they could track your speed a millisecond at a time and you pay a fine based on speed over limit times distance traveled and it is then the charges are sent every month like a bill. You can appear in court but will always lose of course. Of course they’re capturing the drivers face at all times and sending that to the po po to make sure they charge the right person.

I guess I’m never buying another new car. Fuck everything, at this point. I’m so done.

Right? Like, just go read about Project 2025 if you somehow still think the GOP is benign. Jfc.

Or, idk, maybe remember the absolute clusterfuck that was the Trump presidency? That was only 2016-2020 so not particularly hard to remember if you’re not suffering memory loss.

Anyone who says it is worth risking Trump and the GOP gaining power again is either a fool, a fascist or racist Trump shill, ignorant, stupid, insane, suffering memory loss, experiencing cognitive decline, or an operative for a foreign government working psyops – or some combination thereof.

It doesn’t help that the whole curriculum was designed by a coke snorting hyper-workaholic.

The whole idea of 12 hour shifts for any critical function, let alone medical personnel, of all people, is batshit insane. The idea of people working off of no sleep and total exhaustion where the slightest mistake kills someone…?? And what “work-life balance?” Seems like medical folks aren’t allowed to have that.

Lol this is amazing. Oddly enough I was interspersing a couple of Columbo episodes in between Trek last week.

It’s fucking awful to lose a friend. I’m so sorry.

I think you’re right about taking a break from social media. It can get exhausting and depressing. So much toxicity, doom, negativity, etc. It can really drag a guy down. (I was going to skip it today as I’ve been in the dumps).

FWIW I have enjoyed the hell out of Discovery. I haven’t had a show hook me that much in a while. Not done binging yet, though. Some people really do like to rag on stuff. I think life is better when one focuses on the positive instead of always trying to pick shit apart. And it’s better for others to let them enjoy what they enjoy.

I’m sure any of us would be glad to give you “cover fire” anytime. I know I’m not alone in saying you’ve been a positive energy for Lemmy.

Anyway…yeah, things will feel better in a few days. People out there care, k? Peace.

Yes. Encircling the Sun

Abandoned golf courses are being reclaimed by nature (www.cnn.com)

Golf courses, despite occupying large green spaces, are not necessarily good for the environment. Land is often cleared to make way for a fairway and maintaining the pristine turf often requires a lot of water, regular mowing and the spraying of fertilizers and pesticides – none of which is good for biodiversity....

Would love to see both golf and that ableist slur die in a fire.
